Hi guys,

I bought a Forester XT last week. The previous owner had a Road Worthy certificate done by Subaru Service centre while having lots of other things replaced. Such as windshield, suspension bushes etc...

However, after driving it for a week and doing night driving for the first time, i found out that one of the headlights were fogging up with moisture built up inside, which i guess must have failed the lowbeam. Luckily the otherside works.

I found it would cost upwards of $400 to get the headlight replaced. As i dont have that amount of cash lying around... Is it Subaru's fault that this had been over looked?

Please any advice appreciated. Should i be covered in by the "laws of roadworthness"?

Thanks
Simon

Its your fault for not checking when you purchased the car.
Not being a dick. That just how private sales are like.

Thanks,

the roadworthy condition is their responsibility, however be careful as to what determines or is required with a roadworthy. Also, if there is a foggy headlight and even if it IS covered under roadworthy, they wont dish out $400 to fix it, at best they will polish it to a loosely acceptable condition.

can you do it yourself and save yourself the headache?

For $200 bucks you could send me the headlight, ill cut and polish it and clear coat it and mail it back. Good deal? :)

Guys, by "fogging with moisture", OP means condensation not UV damage. I doubt an RWC would include a wet weather vehicle check

Dont listen to Curtis, Ill even throw in new set of bulbs to sweeten deal.

I get moist talking about cars, only can feel for your headlight- which is a part of your car. Hmmm creamy.

If the headlight wasn't foggy during RWC then it would've passed, its not like they spray water over the whole car for a RWC lol.

Grifty is right. Besides condensation buildup on semi sealed headlights is normal to a certain level. Make sure the rubber boot at the back of the light housing is fitted correctly as that can lead to excess moisture sometimes.
You should join up on ozfoz.com.au if your after cheap parts.
