View Full Version : VERY STUPID ENQUIRY

I know this is probaly the dumbest ever question... but I'll explain what happened first.. I was coming down hoddle street onto eastern freeway.. right after the big 180 turn.. i was in 2nd gear and floored it.. i hit vtec and all the way to 8200 rpm .. zoomed past a gen 5 prelude vtir.. he gave chase and pulled up next to me.. after about 3 seconds.. i heard his exhaust rumble and he was pulling away so i immediately dropped into 3rd and give chase.. thinking that there is no way in hell i can even catch up.. but suprisingly, my car pulled up slowly.. I really dotn know whether he ws flooring it but we drove all the way up to about 180 before my engine cut off.. and he just kept going.. he then slowed down to about 100.. and i pulled up next to him.. i dropped into 3rd and was hitting vtec occasionally just to let him know i wanted to go again.. so after several seconds.. he goes again i started giving chase.. again.. my car pulled up slowly until just before the engine cut off.. he took an exit i think at burke and gave me a beep before driving off.. QUESTIONS.. QUERIES.. I've got a b16a and he's got an h22a.. My car is stock except for the pod filter.. He's got an exhaust from what I can see.. could just be a muffler...


1) How in the world can I even pull up on him???
2) If his car was automatic, would it have made a huge difference ???

the preludes arent that quick. its more of a luxury coupe IMO.

you weigh less than he does. find out what the power to weight ratios for both the cars are. b16a isn't a weak engine either(despite what the integra facists on this board may say)

the auto tranny does make a huge difference to performance. when i went to the c&v dyno day a while back, a stock auto 5th gen pulled 81kw at the wheel, i pulled 88. this from a car that is meant to come with 22kw over mine. bit of torque convertor goodness for ya ;)

I got the b16a off the eg6.. its suppose to have 170ps..

but havent tested it yet but

premium unleaded and octance boosters will gib u 170hp

but i got a friend with the jdm b16a as well and he got raped by a gen 5 lude.. so i have no idea what is going on..

it depends on the driver and the way ur engoine is tuned

EG with b16a + i/h/e and susp mods will rape a lude...depending on driver skill and conditions as well ;)

Go the b16a, always felt that preludes area bit of a "fakeludes", but i shudnt say that, cos it is a honda, and there must be some prelude enthusiasts out there! but yeah, on a tangent... is it legit for a for a ek vtir, to chop a teg, the one before the dc2 i think. Its a dohc non vtec, i think. Or is the teg driver just a weak ass??

might sound biased, but ur civic should had no chance against him. i/h/e whatever, the weight difference is gone by about 100kmph ur going to lose to him due to his torque. preludes own integra and civics in top speed cos of their power difference. i dont know why that car lost, but in a 1/4 u might have a chance, but top end wise where the freeway ur tlaking about is, he should rape u.

This is exactly what I was expecting.. to be totally raped by the lude.. I know lude has very good top end and especially after 100 km/h.. It is a 2.2 l DOHC VTEC after all. That is what puzzles me to begin with.

I have a 3rd gen crx with the B16A and i have a quick race with my brothers 5gen prelude VTIR (tiptronic). i was leading like half a car length untill about 100km/hr, he started to glide away from me. And that was with a tiptronic.

yeah the higher torque and hp figures really start to own in the top end, but of course in teh 1/4 mile, its also about gearing etc. im not sure what happened on the eastern at all man, but hey if u win, u win, good on ya :)
