Hydraulic fluids are incompressible fluids used as the primary power transmitting medium in hydraulic systems. It is therefore very important to select the correct hydraulic fluid for your application. Motul’s Multi HF is a high performance multifunction synthetic hydraulic fluid for power steering, hydraulic dampers and hydraulic hard top systems.

Many are often confused by the difference between synthetic and conventional hydraulic fluids. One of the main differences is its stability over various load ranges and temperature extremes.

To ensure that the hydraulic system doesn’t prematurely fail, the viscosity of the hydraulic fluid should remain stable when in use. More often than not, synthetic hydraulic fluids maintain their viscosity as they are heated, while conventional hydraulic fluids will suffer from a viscosity decrease.

The stability of synthetic hydraulic fluids yields multiple benefits, including:
• Reduction in heat generation in the hydraulic system to improve its service life;
• Better protection of components including pumps and seals, leading to less wear;
• Increase in overall performance and efficiency;
• Decrease in maintenance costs.

Thankfully Motul Multi HF provides consistent viscosity across a range of operating temperatures as well as a high flash point of 155°C, ensuring a hydraulic fluid that is safe whilst maintaining high performance in almost any condition.

Motul (http://clixtrac.com/campaign/?62165) Multi HF offers an exclusive and dedicated formula to:
• Protect hydraulic pumps and provide efficient hydraulic power transmission even under heavy loading situations with its optimised viscosity index of 328;
• Extend the lifetime of all hydraulic systems;
• Improve comfort and reduce noise, particularly in cold conditions;
• Provide outstanding anti-wear, anti-corrosion and anti-foaming properties, ensuring lasting potential of your hydraulics.

The specially-formulated anti-wear, anti-corrosion and anti-foaming properties of Motul Multi HF designed to enhance component protection and extend the lifetime of your hydraulic system aren’t found in Automatic Transmission Fluids (ATF). Thus, substituting hydraulic fluid with ATF is not recommended. Motul offers a range of Technosyntheses® and synthetic transmission fluid options tailored especially for your gearbox.

Mixing hydraulic fluids should also be avoided as their additives may be incompatible. A reaction between different hydraulic fluids can cause an increase in wear or even corrosion to components, reducing their lifetime as well as increasing maintenance costs.
