So a few weeks my daily driver was in a minor collision. Rear ended a Subaru Outback at about 40kmph.

This is the result.

The outbacks tow-bar did most of the damage. Both the radiator and and AC condenser were punctured. Front bumper was pretty crushed, both headlights smashed, bumper support beam totally screwed and the radiator support is fairly bent.

I'd always intended to get into car modifications, I guess this was the push I needed.
Any way, I have removed the Bumper, headlights, QTR panels and radiator. I've sourced a new radiator and bumper, but I'm waiting until the Radiator support is fixed.

Do you think that the radiator support is fixable DIY, or should I take it to a professional? I'd prefer to do it myself to keep the costs down and give me some experience. Doesn't have to be perfect as its my daily beater.

If I do try and fix it myself, can someone please send me their measurements (as per the photo below) on their uncrashed EK. Thats supposed to be the centre of the struts to the two holes at the front. And the bolt-hole where the radiator support meets the chassis.

I don't plan on going through the hassle of fixing the air-con and getting it re-gassed, can I just cut the rubber hoses on the condenser and forget about it, or will this cause problems in the future?

Let me know what you guys think.

Cheers.

Since you have it back - I'm guessing it's not insure or you did not make a claim ?

IMO if it was unsure this would be written off due to the value of car VS the cost of repairs

You can buy a nose cut from the wrecker or just pay a repairer. At a guess $2-3k all up including parts and labour ?

Is it worth it to you?

Considering it's a cxi which arent worth very much you could use the repair money to buy another.

Or alternatively you can straighten the radiator support yourself and slap on a new front end and drive again. parts would like like 500-700?

The accident was technically my fault, I had 3rd party, so the other car is fully covered.

It doesn't owe me much.

500 - 700 in parts, jesus. I wouldn't have thought that much. All I need now is headlights, bumper support beam and possibly a bonnet. Provided I fix the radiator support.

i thought it'd be a fair bit more than 500-700

bonnet 70-120
head lights 60-100
bumper 50-100
grill 20-50
reo- 40-70
radiator 50-80

That's about right for average prices for parts from a private sale, wreckers will rip you off.

I already have a bumper, grill and radiator. At this stage the slightly dented bonnet will have to do. So its only the headlights and reo that i need.

Provided i can fix the radiator support.
