The engine warning light on my 2007 VTi has been coming on intermittently. According to the local mechanic the problem is with the O2 sensor (using diagnostic scanner).

It looks straightforward to replace, but I thought I just ask here to make sure there are no gotcha's. All advice/tips appreciated.

Did he give you the code?

One of these codes means you could have a vacuum leak since there is more or less air than the MAF sensor told the ECU, could also be dirty MAF sensor
P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0172 System too Rich (Bank 1)
----------------------
P0030 HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0031 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0032 HO2S Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0036 HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0037 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0038 HO2S Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

But being an 07 the heater element on the HO2S could have failed

No, he just said O2 sensor fault. The car was in for A/C check and I asked about the warning light, so he checked it as a favor. I'll get one of those el-cheapo scanners on e-bay to confirm the code.

Just get a basic OBD-II bluetooth scanner and torque if you got an android phone.
Best way to get codes and live data
