according to recent news from caradvice.com.au.
The*Honda Civic Type R*will absolutely return to Australia, though precise launch timing is still being worked out.*
After repeatedly saying it was dead keen to import the reborn hot hatch after a five-year absence,*Honda*Australia director Stephen Collins confirmed to CarAdvice today that it’s now locked-in.
The news comes as Honda in the UK has commenced taking £3000 ($A5600) pre-orders for the car ahead of its launch there around May 2015.*
“We are trying to confirm timing and therefore have not officially announced as yet,” Collins told us today. “It’s a matter of when not if — it will return to Australia for sure.*
“[We] Should be able to confirm timing in the next few months,” he added.
Given the UK launch timing — incidentally, the Type R will be built at Honda UK’s Swindon plant for export — the Type R is unlikely to arrive in Australia before the third quarter of 2015 at the earliest.*

Working at a honda dealership, i know my manager has not heard anything about it at all. lots of car magazines saying its definitely coming 2015 when last thing we heard from Honda AU was 2017.
so we will see, price will be around 50k apparently.

For $50k there's just so much out there, I think that the Type R would have to be something very special. Unfortunately I can't see it happening - just more of the same formula that's already available now, not to mention what's coming out in the next couple of years.
Final gen XR8 has to be one of the performance bargains of the century (even if you don't like RWD taxis). Although I wasn't planning on replacing any vehicles for the next couple of years, I'm still sorely tempted to pay my local Ford dealer a visit. Maybe I can get a package deal on an XR8 and Fiesta ST.

Nothing, it's the "full fat" car, there is no "better" JDM version. :)
Brembos, Recaros, "Steer axis" (similar to Ford's Revoknuckle)... it will have the works.
It's priced similar to the Focus RS, Megane 275 Trophy, Subaru STi etc.

It will be release 1 year after the brits get it since Honda AU light to take their time and cause this stupid country has to do its own safety tests rather than use the european test data.
And when we get it, it might be watered down compared to the UK version.
Just like the last one.

We get the current civic hatch which is made in swindon.
I cant see why honda australia will put the type R engine into a sedan.
Putting a weaker version into the current i can see as with the jazz.

We will stop importing this swindon made Civic Hatch for 2017 as it is time for a new chassis (not facelift), the "new" will be a thai made model the 4 door and 5 door will share more of the same platform then.
I dont think the Type R will be on the sedan version but it might, best guess is it will be on the 2017 Hatch (5 door). I was told this by the Honda State Manager for WA, while i was working as a honda salesperson last month.
However it is a while away - plans might change. But i know for sure that when Drive made the article saying it was coming in 2015 that it was just a good looking article, Honda was not backing it up. there is another update for the current shape Civic Hatch it will be in 2016 and it is expected to have the new screen found on the current jazz/city and my16 (2015) CRV.

The word from someone at honda australia is not a valid source as most if not all of honda australia are clueless.
Why would the hatch which has been made in swindon since the 7th gen.
Be made in thai just for the australian market?
If the thai plant were to be providing the hatch it would have been on some auto news website.
The swindon plant has a spare production line that is not being used and starting with the 10thgen(or 9th gen depending on how you look at it) it will be sold in the US which means they will start pumping these cars out faster than ever if they use the other production line.
So I don't think the thai plant will be providing any hatches.

Stevil, im giving you information i recieved from the WA state manager, as its a new model i dont know why you would doubt the info. but sure the guys in london say yes then thats conflicting but they dont choose to bring the cars in.
I can check with some of the guys i was working with, as some of them are big honda nuts and waiting for the Type R as well. some have even taken deposits down for the type R, but there is no confirmed release date for the car or confirmed pricing.
before i was a salesperson i was a enthusiast so its not like i know nothing about them.
Also more information from the state manager, i think this is confusing people, the 2017 civics will both be made in thailand. thailand will not be remaking the swindon civic hatches, the UK made hatches are going to be discontinued and unlikely to be sold here as that model is now too old. there is no reason it has to be in a auto news site, those guys can make up anything they want and they probably dont give enough shits to make up a story about the civic hatches new successor being thai made.
the european market may continue to recieve the swindon civics or a newer model made in the uk, but we apparantly are not. why does this seem so hard to comprehend?

Hello Stevil, my name is Donny Ranchunduran, I am the WA State Sales Manager for Honda. I have spoken to BabyFace yesterday due to concerns with your lack of information.
I would like to advise that information that Baby Face is providing is 100% correct, however we may look into facing delays as more orders are put down for the car.
If you would like to PM me, I will be happy to provide you with whatever documentation I am allowed to distribute. Any questions are also welcome.

Hey thank for jumping on board Donny, if you reread what babyface posted it makes no sense ??
Firstly he states no getting til 2017, then we are getting it changed over ?? I suspect that til the the bloody things have actually landed their is no guarantees. It wpuld make no sense to bring 1 type R model for around 18mths then change to a new platform. Id personally like a new platform over the swindon built car.
And again thanks for making things a little clearer I guess, have they indicated how many cars we may end up getting this year ? cheers

I did say honda AU don't know what they are on about.
They are saying the current chassis is out of date?
What about the L15A engine in the jazz, that is out of date yet we got it instead of the L15B which everyone else got, we also got the 5 speed manual instead of the 6 speed.
If Honda themselves want to use the FK chassis(8th gen and 9th gen) for the type R.
Honda Australia has no say in it.
The guy would have been talking about the civic sedan chassis being old, but the type R will be built in the swindon plant as I think they are also making the engines for the Type R their as well.
Doesn't make sense logistically to make the type R engines in swindon, ship them to taiwan to make the type R their for a few markets.
Honda have put about £200 million into the swindon plant so why would they do that if they wanted to some markets to have a type R hatch made in another plant altogether.

They are saying the current chassis is out of date?
So they won't sell it? Seems odd.
It is, indeed, based on the previous FK/FN2 chassis but heavily reworked and spruced up. The cheif engineer apparently took inspiration from a tuned turbocharged FN2 he drove in Japan. So the chassis is based on the Fn2 and the motor is of course, indeed, a factory turbo K20, albeit a new derivative with the head on the opposite way around. :)
Anyhow Honda has held the press launch and the reviews are pretty positive.

Both the Seat and Renault run Micheln pilot sport cup 2 while the Honda runs a bespoke tyre from Conti - these are all track day type tyres. :)

So far my prediction has rung true, the current Civic Hatch has received its facelift as per my information however it became late 2015 not 2016. it has been updated to the new entertainment system and some other things; AHAS DRL's etc.
I think the information i received about the Type R not coming will also be correct. all though i would like to be mistaken.

228Kw(305hp) and 400Nm(295lb.ft) of torque.
That is just down right insane, Cant imagine the torque steer you will get.
These are the UK trims, I have a feeling our type R will be a stripped down version of the UK Type R Base model.

if you look actually the new Civic Chassis is about to be released this time the Hatch and the Sedan will both be same platform (10th gen).
the timing for my prediction is slightly wrong, i was expecting the facelift to arrive a bit later on in the year as they said late 2015 or early 2016. but eventually this civic hatch will be ditched for the 10th gen platform because it will be more cost effective to make since both body shapes will share the same platform. the 10th gen will have its own type R when time comes, i heard we will receive this in 2017
anyway, this is information i will be given. i would like to see a type R come here but it just doesnt look like it will be this type R

this Civic Hatch that received the facelift is not the 2017 civic platform.
it takes a lot of planning to bring in a model they should of heard something by now if the 2015 type R is coming, all the magazines said it was coming here around this time of year but none of them were credible.

The thailand plant makes the civic sedans and there has been no mention of any upgrades to it for hatchback production.
There has been no mention of a new sedan type r being made any where on the internet besides from what you have said here.
Since the type R is on the FK platform it is being made in swindon.
The only plant that makes the civic hatch is the swindon one in the UK.
Honda Australia takes 1 or 2 years to bring in the hatchbacks for red tape reasons.
The car has collision ratings and fuel efficiency ratings have been done but australian law says it must be tested again which wastes time.
Honda also like to make more profit by watering down the type R.
The 2009 and later FN2 came with HID from factory, LSD but not here.
I would not be suprised if the Type R in australia does not have the LED headlights the UK model has.
Then again it might not be sold at all since there is not automatic option and all honda does these days is "AUTO ONLY"

$32000 pounds for the civic type r turbo
good luck getting it here cheap with our dollar going down
Grayfox

At$63,000 is a lot for a hot hatch which is the current AU price for the Type R and $69000 for the GT trim level.
This is $5,000~$9500 more than the VW Golf R, the golf has 6Kw less power but has All wheel drive(heard it is only all wheel drive when traction control is activating)
Can the type R be classed as a hot hatch since it has 228Kw/300hp+ which is like a performance N/A V6.
Super Hot Hatch?
No doubt honda australia will water down our version
And with 228KW at the front wheels is just waiting for an accident to happen.
Only changes from the Type R to the Type R GT are
Max Torque
Type R:400Nm@2500rpm
Type R GT:400Nm@4500rpm
Audio
Type R: Honda CONNECT with 6speakers
Type R GT: Honda CONNECT with navigation and 8 speakers
Interior and Exterior
Type R GT: Type R GT has Alloy Pedals, Ambient Light, Auto dimming rear view, Climate Control Dual Auto A/C, Electrically Retractable Door Mirrors,
Parking Sensors, Rain Sensing Wipers, Remote Power Window (Key Fob Operation), Remote Retractable Door Mirrors (Key Fob Operation),
RR One Touch Power Window (Up/Down, Sub Trunk) Auto Headlights, High beam support
Safety
Type R GT: Blind Spot Information, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition System
