jdm b18c swap into ek help. i hav a jdm b18c with a 4pin/wire alternator plug which is different to my ek4 engine loom alternator plug which is a 3 pin/wire plug. can i run the ek4 altenertaor which is a 3 pin/wire on the jdm b18c without it pulling an engine light due to it missing the 4th wire which i beleive is the ELD (Electrical Load Detector) wire. ill b running it on the jdm p73 ecu and not sure if the ecu will search for eld and may pop a check engine light which i dont want.

yeah you'll be fine, i'm doing the same thing with no issues

edit: noticed you said p73, it might a problem then..im using obd1 p72. sent you a PM anyways

Actually it has little to do with it being a P73 or P72 ECU. It's because he is trying to run a JDM ECU (which supports the ELD system) on an AUDM chassis that doesn't have the necessary wiring or actual ELD unit in the under-hood fusebox. This will cause the PCM to throw Code 20 - Electrical Load Detector

How does one get rid of the check engine light?

I'm running the same swap and don't get any check engine lights.

The car is a 95 EK4 with P73-013 ecu and running a 4 wire square plug alt.

did u com across the same issue with the ek4 loom as me? mine is a oval 3 pin/wire on the ek4 alternator plug. i hav read people just chopped and soldered the 3 wire from the ek4 loom and matched the 3 wires onto the the b18 alternator wire and leaving out the 1 wire. was this the same for u?

I actually took the motor out of another EK and put it into my car, so I didn't have to mess around with the wiring.

Why not just use the 4 wire alt and then wire the 4th wire directly to the ecu?

yea i can do that. would u happen to know/have the diagram for the 4th wire to hook up to the right pin on the ecu?

I'll have a look at my ECU tomorrow afternoon for you.

ah that does make sense, i assumed the p73 was the issue, being obd2

ok. thanks
btw

take a look at this link:

doesnt give you which wires go where, but it does give you colours. (in my experience the wires are the same colour [ for the loom and obd1/obd2 (oval plugs)in AUS spec anyways])
