Why the rule update?

As a lot of competitors have big investments in the top level cars across most classes, we are extremely diligent in ensuring that any changes we make are for the greater good of the sport and to ensure a healthy, competitive playing field.

We are also continuously working with the technical department at CAMS to ensure that we also provide the safest environment possible. We are proud of the fact that in our 5 years of international competition we have never had one serious injury and that is something we are looking to maintain well into the future.

What have we updated for 2015?

1. Open Class Rules Relaxed. We have allowed some greater freedoms within the Open Class with regard to removing material for tyre clearance, cooling systems and fuel tanks. This will allow these vehicles to be constructed at a higher level with a lot less hassle and in turn reducing labour and construction cost.

2. KERS Device in Pro Class. We will allow the use of a KERS device electric hybrid engine in the Pro Class. While it is unlikely we will see this in 2015, it is something we expect will become more common in the years to come as this technology becomes more affordable.

3. NOS in Pro Class. We will allow the use of Nitrous Oxide in the Pro Class. The reason for this is not because the top level cars need more power but simply that many cars competing at top level time attack racing in other regions of the world have their whole engine program built around a nitrous assisted engine and being forced to remove this power adder would put these teams at a disadvantage. So from 2015 all Pro Class teams are allowed the use of Nitrous Oxide and we will be working with CAMS to ensure the safety policy is adhered to regarding this. Please note that NOS is allowed in Pro Class ONLY not Pro Am.

4. Tyre Size Restriction for Ultra Lightweight Cars. We will be implementing a tyre size restriction across the board for ultra lightweight vehicles. This means that any AWD vehicle that weighs less than 1001kg, any RWD vehicle that weighs less than 901kg and any FWD vehicle that weighs less than 801kg will need to run on a narrower tyre to ensure some level of parity with the rest of the field. The reality is that an 800kg car with 800+ hp and a 295 tyre set up properly may make the current crop of vehicles redundant and that is certainly something what we are out to protect because as we stated in our opening line: “we are extremely diligent in ensuring that any changes we make are for the greater good of the sport and to ensure a healthy and competitive playing field.”

There will be no further changes to the rules before October 2015 however we will post an “updated version” with our Supplementary Regulations that may be in a revised format. The content will remain as per the current edition.

So in short, get your cars ready, 2015 WTAC is going to be the best one yet!
