Hi guys,

I checked the level of coolant and its below MIN mark. I bought my CRV two years ago and have never done this by myself.

I would like to ask for advice where is the radiator drain plug located?

Do I have to use 'radiator flush liquid' or just buy coolant and refill?

What type of coolant to use? In manual was info to use only genuine Honda All Season
Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2.

Thank you.

The radiator plug can be found ath the bottom of the radiator. It's looks a bit like a plastic wingnut.

What coolant to put in depends on what kind of coolant is alerady there - note the colour and buy the same.

If it comes out relatively clean then you'll be OK but if it looks like it's full of rusty chunky bits then you might need to do more flushing

It's a very messy job if you have 2 left hands like i do

it's not just drain and fill, need to flush the system.....

Thanks for your advise.

Also found some guide on the net:

1.Drain Cooling System
2.Refill radiator with clean water
3.Add Radiator Flush to cooling system
4.Start Engine and turn on heater
5.Run engine for 10 - 15 minutes
6.Turn off engine, allow to cool
7.Drain cooling system
8.Refill with appropriate Coolant

Are these steps all I need to do ?

You may also want to make sure once you fill the system up with new coolant that all of the air is burped out of the system....

Personally I would drain out the block, as well as the radiator.
Make sure temperature setting on hvac is on heat.
Fill with distilled water if money is no issue or tap water will suffice.
Run until fans come on twice.
Drain radiator and block again.
Fill with "honda coolant" .

These steps are no compromise procedure. You can cut corners if u wish

Thanks a lot guys.

Apart from official Honda dealers where can I buy Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2?

Found this one but not sure if it falls under " genuine" Honda category.

2 maybe silly questions:

1/
Does it have to be blue colour? Haven't checked what colour coolant is in the car yet and noticed there are some green coolant on supercheap web site too.

2/
Is it premixed? After flushing the radiator can I simply pour it in?

If you flush it twice, doesn't matter what is there to start with. use the correct coolant which is genuine honda or the nulon Blue.

Honda coolant is premixed

Nulon blue in the link i provided is a concentrate.

My local Honda dealer quoted me $61.05 for 5L.

Is it the regular, everyday price or other places sell it cheaper?
(I will obviously shop around , just asking if anybody was able to buy it for a better price)

If you drain the block as per my instructions. You'll need more than 5ltr

Another local dealer offer 5L for $55

Its hard to decide for Nulon you mention in above post or Honda when I am not a car mechanic.

Just for comparison how much is Nulon 5L from above mentioned post?

:)

No, I am not lazy :)

I was on supercheap web site but they dont have that type you provided in your link.
Repco and autobarn websites dont have a list of products and prices.

When I read discussion about coolant there are 2 groups, one group is saying all coolants are "the same" just use anything from good brands. Second group is defending genuine Honda and claiming if I put anything but Honda genuine I will be have problems later.

Use the phone. Call nylon reseller. Quote part number etc. Ask for price. Tell them it's not listed on website.

If money is no issue, use honda coolant.

If budget is an issue, use nylon blue.

Usually the parts dep will quote the price WITHOUT GST
So add 10% to that
Go and buy the Nulon Blue Coolant Concentrate
And mix it at a 50/50 ratio

Yes , but it is with GST. I asked them again.
