Today I discovered my ek4 (b16a2) is for some reason running a p73-003 ecu from a b18c, which would possibly explain the late vtec engagement point and bad fuel consumption. From what I understand the stock and proper ecu for b16a2 is p30? I can't find this ecu for sale anywhere, I have a spoon pw0 and stock pw0 ecu from ef9 (jdm b16a), can I use these at all or will it not work with the b16a2 distributor? Does anyone know where I can buy a p30 ecu or what other options do I have?

Thanks

P30 is for an obd1 b16a/2 such as crx delsol and eg6 civic

Ek4 uses p2t stock

Thanks.. I will see if I have any better luck finding p2t

Finding lots for sale :) however there are a few variations, is p2t-003 the right one?

you need one from a EK4 and not a EM1

So does the code from EM1 and EK4 ecu's differ so I know which is which?

By looking at the ECU connectors

You will then need to pair the ECU to the cars immobiliser.

Another option is converting to OBDI and running an ECU that is socketed and a P30 chip

How hard is it to pair the ECU to the immobiliser? Will try to google some of this.. also forgot to mention I found this on my p73 ecu and wondered who ECU-MAN was lol 27979

Sorry, cleared now

To pair the immobiliser do I just have to swap the immobiliser chips between the two ECU's? Seems the easiest option

ECU-MAN

That will work

Immobiliser chip may not even be in the P73-003 - I believe that's a JDM ECU which never came factory fitted with an immobiliser

gotta open it up and see - i'm more interested in knowing whats been done to the ecu ECU-MAN ;)

If you need a p2t ECU let me know, have one from my b16a2 ek4

Probably a repair. There is not a lot you can do the OBDIIA ECU.

Ended up buying a P30 ecu and now my check engine light is on, vtec not engaging lol... anyone know why this could be? Might have to get that p2t ecu off you kennee..

Is throwing code 22 VTEC pressure valve

dorikin
24-04-2015, 05:25 PM
reason is because OBD1 ECU's and Engines have a VTEC Pressure switch

OBD2A engines like your EK4 don't have it

IIRC there is a so-called bypass method, you'll have to look it up tho as I don't remember how its done

Okay, makes sense, thanks. But from what I can see in the engine bay it looks like it does have a vtec pressure switch? I can take the plug off and there's oil inside.. Same on my obd0 b16a in my ef9..

post a pic of your EK4 vtec solenoid

Nevermind, I was looking at the plug lower down, here's a pic just to be sure anyway 28044

Found a few tutorials on making the ecu bypass it will give it a go tomorrow

lower one is ECT sensor

Jumped 2 wires on the ecu plugs to bypass it looking for the vtec pressure switch and everything works now, should have done this years ago, such a difference compared to the p73 ecu! The car finally feels good to drive just like my ef9, vtec engages earlier, way more drive-able now, thanks guys

don't jumper the wires of the VTP as you will get the code again when you hit VTEC, you can jumper VTP to VTS to get rid of the code

I thinks that what I have done, no code when vtec engages, just did exactly what it says here, 28060

thats fine

So since fitting this ecu I am only getting about 250k's from a full tank.. the car is driven hard all the time either at the track or in the hills but with the p73 ecu I was still getting about 400 a tank.. maybe my o2 sensor is just bad?

Isn't the CRX Del Sol obd2?

Isn't the CRX Del Sol obd2?

They come in both flavours, OBDI until 1995 and OBDIIA post 1996

Off topic, but, my CRX build date is May 96, so that would be OBDIIA? Did they bring in the OBDIIAs on and after Jan 1 or sometime mid year?

I don't know where to look for that information and I'm afraid of ripping up the carpet in the car to have a look at the ECU.

If its OBDIIA it will have the factory Immobiliser. The MAP sensor will be mounted on throttle body and the IAT in the intake runner tubing. OBDI MAP is on the firewall, IAT mounted on the intake manifold and no factory immobiliser (green key on the cluster)

Also OBDII had all black interior and not the two tone door trims.

Definitely OBDIIA then...thanks for the info.

I decided to try a p2t to see if it would fix my fuel economy and bad idling and other minor issues. It wont start with this ecu, I'm assuming its the immobiliser, starter motor works but engine doesn't start. Do I need to swap the immobiliser chips between either the previous p73 or p30 that were working? Do these ecu's have immobiliser chips like the p2t has? Thanks

If the ECU is OBDIIA then the DIY on this site will show you how to bypass the immobiliser
