Hi.

Dealer recons the distributer on our 2003 Honda Odessy engine needs replacing because the o-ring around the shaft is leaking oil down the back of the engine.
Says its a sealed non-repairable item and wants $900 + labour to replace it.

Is this true? Non-repairable?
I'm very willing to have a go at repairing it but only if it can actually be done. Has anyone done it before, or is it truly impossible?

Okay there is THREE O-rings in your dizzy (distributor)

One - between the dizzy and head (this is replaceable)
One - between the dizzy cap and base (This one is replacedable too and comes with a new cap assembly)
One - internal one around the dizzy's bearing (THIS ONE IS NOT SOLD BY HONDA)
-I personally replaced my interal seal (aftermarket) and the dizzy still leaked as the shaft had some wear on it

You can get your dizzy re-conditioned at a local shop. Call around
I had a chat with a local Honda dealer over here and they get a local shop to do it for $100
-New bearings & seals

Just remember to mark timing on the head and dizzy so you won't loose ignition timing
And remember the rotation of the rotor in the dizzy, so youre timing wont be 180 degreess out

i new generic distributor should be less than 400. Fairly easy to install.
