Hi All,

So I've had my 5th gen for a little while now and while I love the way it drives it still feels quite cramped "vertically". I have to tilt the back of the seat really far so that I can fit my head in without it grazing the roof. Having it tilted back this far really isn't the most comfortable (personally) and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas that might help.

Really I think I need to get seats that are a bit closer to the floor just for that extra bit of clearance. Realistically I'm only talking about maybe 2cm in height extra that I'd need. I do currently have the leather seats and I was wondering if the cloth seats are any lower to the floor or would in any way help give me that extra clearance. Aftermarket would be an option I suppose, but most seem to be those bucket seats with massive side bolsters that might make it more uncomfortable for me.

Anywho, let me know if you have any ideas (that don't involve me having my torso surgically re-sized :P)

cloth seats are basically the same height, one way you could go is to put in s2k seats as they actually lower the seating position in the car

i didnt quite have that problem as my head was pretty clear from the roof, but was a bit tall on the lowest position.

ive seen that s2k seats make it slightly lower, and are easy(ish) to put in

just gotta find the right ones at the right price, then swap the base lol

easy met

stick your seats in an oven for half hour, will make them bit bigger for a while (science)

How tall are you?

I'm roughly 6ft myself and I have to lean the seat back a fair bit.

Personally I don't mind it. S2000 seats could be the best option if you need to go a little lower.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I've finally found a seat position that works alright for me :) Now I dare not move the seat in any way, lest i lose the perfect position.

I used to make all the passengers go through the passenger side to get into the back (still do in my current car, because the ****ing seats dont go back to normal position) so I never lost my position lol

Nice man. Did you lean it back more?

Don't you hate it when people sit in your car, in your driver's seat
And ****ing touch everything like a wet sponge
And ruin all the 'settings'

No one else drives the car except the missus, but even then really I don't mind

I'm 6'4" and had problems fitting into my 4G Prelude which uses basically the same seats and floorpan.

I found that I could get a good seating position in the cab but it was too far for me to reach the gearshift and steering wheel comfortably. Leg room was perfect.

I solved this by installing a 65mm spacer between the boss kit & the momo steering wheel. You can't do this with an OEM wheel, you will have to go aftermarket if you want a spacer.

I also installed a JTC Short Shifter and the JTC Shifter Extender kit. The SS shortened the gear throws by 1/2 so it was less "reaching" to get to 3rd and 5th and the Extender bits ( 1.5" bend + 1.5" straight) made it an easy reach to the gear knob. It uses the OEM thread if anyone wants to use it on an OEM shifter.

Having the SS adjusted to the "tightest" setting lowers the gearstick so the extra extensions take it back to only 2 inches taller than stock with the bend. I had a new leather gearstick boot made up that was a few inches longer than OEM and a bit "fatter" at the top to allow for the bend and still have the OEM gear knob installed. It doesn't look too different from stock and probably wouldn't get noticed unless you knew the model.

I'm using OEM 4G Leather seats and stock rails & the driving position I now have is perfect, probably the best I've ever had in a car I've owned. Only downside is using the wiper & indicator stalks but seeing as its not a daily & only goes on runs in the countryside it's not really an issue for me.

The new position did take some getting used to, my head is parallel to the start of the rear 1/4 glass when I drive and I can only see about 2/3 of the bonnet (which isn't usual when you are 6'4") but once I got used to it was great. I used to dislike driving my lude until I made the shifter/spacer mods and being cramped actually made it tiring to drive, now it's something I can drive for hours.
