Recently stripped out AP1 soft top assembly with a few interior trim pieces and insulation etc
30.6kg
Forbidden frp hardtop with rsg race brackets is 13.8kg

So 16.8kg saved

Also replaced standard sized battery with a pc680 and saved another 5kg

Brings my total weight savings up to 98.5kg (street trim) and 113.8kg (race trim)

This is the best thread ever.

Mate well done on sharing what you've done. These things take time and cuts out a lot of time for us.
You know how much weight contributes to acceleration so losing 100kg is massive.
Did you take out the stereo? You can swap the glass in our door windows to perspex, it looks very similar but obviously another 5kg or so lighter.

thanks man
i just did it cause there's a few threads on it on s2ki on this topic and so many discrepancies and estimations of weights etc
i dont personally know how much difference it makes but im sure i could find the formula and do the calculations

i still have stereo and glass man. im building the car to clubsprint specs so the glass wont be replaced but definitely a lot of weight to be saved there

Assuming you are changing from mass 1300 kg to 1200kg

you will get an 8.3% increase in acceleration

the real benefit is when you don't heat your brakes and wear your tyres as much

How much do you weigh mate? If you're a big unit like 120kgs, you could go on a diet and drop another 60kgs! :)

Haha I'm 6ft 4 and 82kgs. I'm lanky as ****.

I race the car so any weight loss is good. I could lose a lot more from the car but Im not going crazy/want a full interior still etc

True!
The s2k being NA isn't going to benefit from the acceleration as much but the braking difference helps massively.

Just to be clear, I'm not going for the lightest race car here. What I'd like is once I've added stuff like a roll bar, aero, oil cooler etc is to be at the same weight as stock.
Should be fairly achievable with my goals.

a lot more weight reduction has taken place
i guess you would call this stage 2 with the reductions getting a bit more serious now.

stereo system removed (headunit, speakers and ipod) = 2.9kg
passenger airbag and bracket = 3.5kg

Also couple more things coming up so stay tuned for them too
