Hi all

I have a 98 CRV that recently started having issues with the auto transmission at higher speeds.

when it first occurred I found that there was not enough transmission fluid in it, it was driving extremely jerky and revving out.

done a flush and refilled now If you are gentle and cruise around it is ok but once you start trying to pick up the pace it will begin to rev out in a higher gear.
Shifting into 4th takes a bit of play with the throttle aswell.

just curious how much others have spent on either rebuilding the transmission or replacing it with another.

is it worth the cost or should I buy another CRV as they seem to be pretty cheap now and some are selling for under $4000.

many thanks in advance.

Best of buying a low km second hand auto box

The main question, is why was it low in the first place?
Leaking lines/leaking drain plug
Because if you can't solve that issue, the new box will die anyways
Good luck

thanks for the reply

I contacted Hannys Honda and they can rebuild the box for $1800 or if I find a box they can fit it for $350.

checked some wreckers, Hontoys asking $700 others were asking upto $1300.

As to why the fluid was so low in the first place I have no idea, theres no physical leaks on the outside of the trany, but like you said could be leaking lines or its old fluid thats burnt up.

Faar out $1800 to rebuild the box
Does it include parts, removal and fitting?
If not that's ridiculous
Get a good quality second hand box or reconditioned one with warranty

Pro tip next time
Change transmission fluid regularly and keep an eye out for its level

$1800 remove, recondition and install, Rob didnt even advise to do this he even said its too expensive.

Im gonna have to just look around for a second hand tranny or just buy another CRV ive seen some going around for $3500 pretty cheap.

Also ive never owned an automatic car always had manuals, Ive learnt from this now for future.
