Hey OzHonda,
For a while now my engine has had a head tick/tap. Recently I discovered that I could hear the sound quite clearly through screw driver coming from the valve area (placed the screw driver right near the header)
After a recent service, I had let the car get warmed up and had been driving it for at least 15 minutes or more. I decided to rev it out a little to about 7000 or so. A lot of white smoke came out of the exhaust. The engine doesn't seem to struggle revving out or anything and does pull fairly nicely when in VTEC.
I know that the best thing I can do is take it to a specialist and see what they recommend but personally I think it needs some kind or rebuild or recondition.
I have read that a rebuild will replaced all gaskets, piston rings and make sure the head is in working order (true?). I have read that a recondition is when the whole engine itself is given a fresh start (true?)
My main questions are would it be worth the rebuild or recondition? and are there any places that people would recommend in NSW, Western Sydney region?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
u mad?

So in the end did you get a valve adjustment done? i think you may be overthinking this
start with the cheap easy stuff first
regarding the white smoke, do you ever have to top up your water/ coolant? does your oil look milky? Being that it is winter it could be condensation in your exhaust creating the white smoke you're seeing

Not as of yet. Haven't had the time to get one done due to work :(
I never really have to top it up. It always has a nice amount in the over flow. Oil also looks normal to me and other mates that have looked at it.
It seemed like smoke because it stayed in the air where is condensations fades away not to far away from the exhaust, if you know what I mean.

Depending on barometer and humidity, condensation can hang in the air for a really long time. Have you seen people vape? Some of those kunts in a humidified room the vape will be hanging in that kunt for yonks

I've heard good things about hannys, but also bad things. I think especially after they changed owners. Pm grifty, he might be able to help mun. Where in nsw are you?

Western Sydney Renzo.
It blew the white smoke/condensation when VTEC was engaged hence why I didn't think it was condensation.

I reckon you're still ok. Definitely pm grifty and see if he will do your valve clearance.

Might just end up contacting Hanny's. See from there.

Why don't you start with compression and leak down tests. - This will take alot of the guess work out.
Valve adjustment is good, but I has been told not to be messed with unless it is needed.
Rebuild and recondition is same thing btw.
If you were after bang for buck, just buy 2nd hand motor and ez swap.
if you were to open the motor, i'd be looking at alot of aftermarket options cos your already paying for the most expensive part.... labour.

I'll make a recording of the sound I can hear soon. I personally think it needs to be done.
If I need to find a 2nd hand motor I just have to find a low km one :)

Guys at Hanny's have checked and said that the ticking is actually normal.
They said the engine is still healthy considering it has 224xxxkms.
Got the ignition replaced as it was faulty (Common issue on 5th gen Preludes)
Thanks for everyone's help!
