hey all,
well i was inspecting my car yesterday and came across this!!!!:(
my left side inner cv boot had exploded!
does anyone know how much this might cost to fix roughly and also why this may have happened? how long will i be able to drive my car like this cause i know that i will run into big problems if i run the bearings dry cause all the grease has blown out of the seal.:(
any help is appreciated.

it hasnt exploded... over time the rubber becomes hard and is prone to cracking, so when there is a crack and the shaft keeps spinning it is going to tear open and evenually in half. sometimes they are prone to cracking easier when the car has been lowered as the cv boot is slightly bent all the time
a new cv boot cost about 20 bucks and depending on where you go about 80 to about 120 to fit it takes about an hour to hour and a half
get it fixed immediately as dirt gets into the cv joint amongst the grease and makes it like a polishing material and simply wares the cv joint until its destroyed
that will cost you about 200 +
so fix it asap

I went to get a safety certificate for my eg yesterday. The front left exterior boot was split. He charged $80 for supply and fit which I thought was reasonable. I had read up on how to replace this one and it looked like you had to remove it via the interior joint so would be just as complex if not more so than the interior one. Unless there's something I missed.
pm me if you want the mechanic details. It's on Bris Northside.
