Representing USA at this year’s Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge will be LYFE Motorsport with their purpose-built Nissan R35 GTR.

LYFE Motorsport is a newly formed race team comprising a bunch of guys from different racing backgrounds. They specialize in fabrication and engineering as it relates to motorsport.

Though new, LYFE Motorsport have already established themselves as front runners in American Time Attack. Beating times set by iconic time attack cars like Sierra Sierra and FXMD while using a car that was also used for wheel-to-wheel and endurance racing is an impressive achievement in itself but the guys were aiming higher.

“Our goal is to build the fastest R35 in the world” said one of the team owners Cole Powelson, “We have established that in North America but we must prove that in Sydney if we want to earn the world title.”

With a completely purpose-built time attack chassis LYFE Motorsport have their eyes set on WTAC Pro Class. The above photo was taken several months ago and the team has since banned publishing any photography as the new chassis nears completion but we can assure this car is the real deal and will be a force to be reckoned with come October.

The guys have a fair bit of experience with the R35 GTR platform having raced one at Pikes Peak earlier this year. They are now keen to take that experience and translate it to a WTAC winning formula.

“The WTAC car will weigh 200lbs less and make 200hp more than the car used for Pikes Peak and more importantly it will have a proper aero package on the car designed by Andrew Brilliant and built in-house.”

The owner of the car is a mild mannered hero named Kyle Schick (far right in the picture above) who absolutely loves the GTR platform and wants to own and occasionally drive the fastest R35 racecar in the world.

“We wanted to take everything that we have learned about the R35 platform over the past couple seasons and apply that to a dedicated Time Attack build.”

The WTAC car will be lighter, more powerful and have a much more aggressive aero.

Driving duties at WTAC will be handled by Cole Powelson, one of the owners of LYFE Motorsport who worked his way into racing cars by wrenching on them.

While the team are keeping the build pretty quiet and not disclosing a lot, we’ve managed to obtain a few sneak peeks at the chassis. To say that these guys are very serious about their WTAC campaign is an understatement.

Powering the beast will be a LYFE spec, 4.0L motor with forged internal and Kelford cams. Providing boost is an Alpha 10X turbo system with LYFE dual side exit exhaust.

Engine Management is provided by MoTeC M150 PnP ECU with logging, brake pressure sensors, shock potentiometers and transmission and diff sensors. Fuel system consists of AMS Fuel rails, ID 2000 injectors, 3 x Walbro 450 pumps, Radium fuel cell and XRP fuel lines.

Drivetrain consists of Shepherd Transmission built Stage 4, OS Giken Rear differential, Dodson components and fluid, Staubli quick disconnects trans, diff, water, Nismo front diff and XRP plumbing.

Suspension is by Ohlins with Whiteline sway bars and endlinks. SPL front control arms, adjustable toe links, adjustable camber links, adjustable drag links.

Brakes are by Brembo with GTR calipers and Carbon/Carbon pads and rotors. Volk TE37-SL 18×11 will be wrapped in ADVAN A050 R Spec Tyres. (http://www.yokohama.com.au/Tyres/ADVAN-A050-R-Spec.aspx)

LYFE Stage 3 chassis will be strengthened by a LYFE DOM roll cage and fitted with a whole lot of AMS carbon panels. AMB designed aero package will provide the downforce while keeping the drag to a minimum.

With the WTAC trophy proving elusive to American teams so far, can LYFE Motorsport break the streak and bring the title back with them to USA? Only time will tell but one thing we can assure you of; they are certainly going to have one hell of a go!
