testing check engine light on b16a, honda civic eg

what ways would be best and safe to throw a check engine light to test if it actually function. the bulb in the cluster is working when i turn the ignition key on, check engine comes on and then off.

unplug sensor on intake. start her up once she warms up will throw a cel or even before.
