Hello - I'm new the Forum, and it looks like people find it very useful.
I've had a 2007 Odyssey since April 2012. A great drive. The second row very comfortable for my 192cm frame.
On replacing Mastercraft tyres with Continental ContiComfortContact, a front wheel bearing made its presence known. The Mastercrafts were so noisy they were masking the early rumbling.
One bearing replaced by my mechanic (of 27 years) cost $360 all up! Over $100 for the bearing! No after-market source (in Canberra)!
I've had no other troubles; the car has 133k on the clock, gets 7.5l or less per 100 km on the highway, hardly uses oil. I do oil and filters every 5000km.
So: is the wheel bearing price and labour an indication of what's in store as the Ody ages with me?
Are there non-genuine parts available in Australia for bearings, brakes etc and if so are they any good?

Thats not bad for a wheel bearing
It's a car
It comes with wear & tear

Regarding the parts
You can get aftermarket parts, it pays to know people in the business

Honda wheel bearings are expensive, but high quality. Don't skimp out and buy cheap bearings - you will regret it. Timken / FAG make good bearings so you can buy them aftermarket. Also there's a lot to replacing them (you need a hydraulic press to do it properly). $360 is cheap - I wouldn't charge any less to do it.

People can change them at home on a vice with a hammer, but chances are you'll damage the bearing or install it incorrectly, meaning you have to go back and do it again. Look at some of the backyard bearing replacements on Youtube. They make me cringe every time. That is NOT how you treat a bearing

It really depends on the part and the brand... CBC Bearings for example are used by quite a few people. It just doesn't make sense to go genuine IF something else is good for it. Other stuff genuine is best.

CBC bearings will generally sell Timken or FAG, so yes they are worth buying (CBC are a reseller, not a manufacturer). Still expensive, but cheaper than OEM. Stay away from Chinese bearings
