Hey guys,

Recently picked up a DC4 GSi and am having an issue, the 5th gear doesn't want to disengaged half the time.

I have replaced the master and slaved cylinder for the clutch and changed the gearbox oil in hopes it was simply a clutch/oil issue. But after doing so it still sometimes doesn't want to leave the gear. It's strange as getting into gear is easy, but leaving gear can take double clutching (in then out, then back in) and it will then disengage (though sometimes it won't, take multiple attempts). First through to fourth is fine, even better after the oil change.

This is leaving me with either, a throwing bearing being gone (surely it would also screw with 1st-4th?) or synchro? Just comes off as odd it only won't come out of gear, while going in isn't an issue at all.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Lightyboy

Doesn't sound like a synchro (usually engagement problems) but perhaps a broken synchro spring, or broken detent spring. Otherwise it may be excessive hub/sleeve wear on the reverse side. You might need to take the box out to find out unfortunately.
