View Full Version : Did I make a mistake purchasing a 1.8T A4 instead of a EP3

Hey everyone
After selling my first car which was an Accord Euro (which I loved) to my younger brother who is just about to get my P's, I was tossing up between purchasing an EP3 and an Audi A4. I ended up picking a 2009 Audi A4 1.8T which i've owned for a week and i'm starting to regret it more and more.
The interior is amazing, the features are amazing and the comfort is amazing but I just don't enjoy driving the car. The steering feels like it's on auto-pilot and it's extremely slug-ish off the mark. Whenever I go to take off at a decent pace at a set of lights, my front wheels spin like no tomorrow (not a quattro version). My Accord Euro was a much more responsive drive and I definitely loved driving it more in comparison to the Audi.
Am I over-reacting or have I definitely made the wrong decision?

I currently own a euro (audi q5) - Ive had a EP3R...had a golf gti too...very different cars. Hondas are rawer - but this is mainly to do with the less sound deadening involved typically in jap cars vs european cars. Remember comparing a audi a4 to a EP3R is comparing apples to oranges.
PS it sounds like you needed to have a performance honda BEFORE owning your more mature audi. Life is about progression and perspective , if you took steps instead of leaps and bounds , you probably would respect your current car much more.

EP3 would have been better tbh ive had a few mates go from audi to hondas no regrets. also ep3 are really nice to drive cruising and can be roar when you wanna have fun high rpm :)

Why would you try to compare cars from different market segments.
There is no point. You buy A3 if you wanna cruise in lux. You buy EP3 if you wanna cruise fast.
You buy S3 if you wanna do both at once.

Wait, my CL9 Euro is my first car but I'm feeling this is pretty sluggish and slow af off the mark. Gotta be sure the 1.8T is a bit more responsive?

Fast Iz relative.
I would say EP3R is relatively fast. Its more raceboy orientated compared to the A4.
I would say 0-100 is under 5 seconds is also fast.

Most of those things wrong are pretty much because it's a fairly heavy (200+kg heavier) car compared to the euro (apparently. assuming cl7). Apparently similar 0-60/100 times. 8.6-10.5 for a4, depending on transmission. And somewhere around 9sec for the euro depending. But yeah, the a4 is a much more luxury based car, so it makes sense that it'd feel more comfortable, and more smooth in the steering rather than direct I suppose.
For the meantime, git gud, and learn how to launch the thing, and test drive cars before you buy, so you don't run into this issue again.
Test a friends ep3 if they let you, and see if you like that more. If so, sell the audi and buy ep3. Ezpz.

Hot hatchback = hatchback that tries to drive like a sportscar (no that doesn't mean it's fast, as many sportscar like the MG B are far from fast). Rorty exhaust, snappy gearbox, taut suspension... this sort of thing. :)
The Audi A4 is not a "hot" car. :) Furthermore, even VW's "hot" offerings like modern GTI or Audi S3 are generally more mild and conservative (in driving manners not performance) than Honda's. Good if you want a regular car but with more power, not good if you want the feeling of a sportscar (as much as possible anyway).

The car that's like playing a video game about driving around in a boring car > https://youtu.be/VUL-6wsk7co?t=9m1s ?
I have no interest in driving a modern VW. :/ I guess I should, but it's hard to get excited about a 6500rpm redline and the strange Euro design features like the lug bolts.
