View Full Version : E85 fuel problems...

Just stripped down the B18C from the Integra looking at the damage from E Ck. Noticed that the oil was getting thin or watered down (Motul changed every meeting). Also the bearings are all marked up with a cloudy film. No expense spared when engine was built earlier this year with all new bits.

My question is, is the E85 hurting the engine and oil? It's E85 from United.

Any thoughts or ideas from your experiences would be appreciated.

Is Motul you're using even E85 compatible?

I think it's only the 300V thats E85 a-ok

What would you recommend for a full track car with over 13:1 comp?

i would ask the engine builder or tuner

I usually use Penrith racing 10tenths. On b or k series I usually run a tad thicker on track(normally 10w40, I go with 15w50) just to help and slow down the thinning of the oil.

also a few high HP supras on e85 in using martini racing 10w60, seems to be awesome aswell

No way. Highly recommended & proactive tuner in NSW motorsport.
More than likely lack of knowledge on our part.
But now we know...

So your not allowed to ask technical questions on Ozhonda that you don't know the answer to?

what E85 would you use then?

no offence and to the others who use it...

but I wouldn't use E85 full stop, but If u had to, make sure u buy barrel, but then again it will still destroy ur engine the way pump e85 has...

my point is, u spend open budget for the engine, but u go cheap on the fuel, which in essence keeps the engine alive...

fork out for proper race fuel VP race fuel c16, martini racing 110, power plus 110, ELF Purfo 105

IEVAQ8 having run United e85 daily for 2 years along with a bunch of mates, the claim that United e85 will destroy ur motor is hilarious, seriously, Ive tested the Ethanol content at both Caltex and United and its a better product.

Now if youve got pockets lined with gold by all means Use the expensive stuff but dont go sprouting shit about those who sucesfully used United e85.

Aussie produced Nulon oil is a no brainer for my Civic and results at the track and strip indicate its good shit.

wen u use e85 daily, it doesn't have time to corrode and cause u issues,
so yeh u can get away with it as daily, and if it hasn't caused any1 issues and it sits around, they either using a additive to keep it from going off and corroding or they full of shit, I seen it and experienced it first hand, I don't internet keyboard on issues or debates if I dnt know wat im talking about ;)

and u cant talk to me about having gold in ur pockets, if u have OPEN budget for engine build (like OP claims), then y go cheap on fuel...

Engines out and apart, so it looks likely the problem is the injectors. They've lost their spray pattern and are like a fire hose washing fuel down the bores. Engine builder says this is common with cars that sit between runs. The injectors were new at the start of the year, only did 4 race meetings and some practice days, their ID1000's.

so it was ID1000 faulty?
I just ordered a set of ID1000 as well.... but I wont be running E. just normal 98 oct for me.

ID's are No.1. We'll just get a 2nd set so we can swap them out after every race meet whilst the others get cleaned/flowed.

its the JUNK E85 they using thru them
wen ur id's arrive, do me a massive favour and read the little WARNING card
if u can take a pic and post it up so people can understand wat Ethanol does to engines and fuel systems...

even the manufacturer of fuel system parts has a WARNING, e85 must be amazing if there is a WARNING about it...

Maybe Built by a backyard and tuned via copy n paste ? Lol

E85 can see up to 20-30% power increase on a proper built turboed big boost setup. But you are using up to 50% more fuel to do the same distance. This is out of the sealed drum stats - stuff from United is very likely to be contaminated with moisture and definitely inconsistencies in quality.
For the 1/4 monster car or for WTAC it's worth it. Out of a sealed
drum only.

Anyone else - stick with 98 or other race fuel

FYI. cbauto does more tunes in a month than any other builder/tuner does in a year.

Whatever fuel you use. Take it to us and we will make more power with long lasting performance.

The tuner we use is well known in our racing world. You might have seen his mug as part of the JDM Yard WTA cars this year.

For me it comes down to personal choices. We are just ameteurs, weekend warriors, not even in the motor industry yet we manage to roll out a competitive car that 95% of all work is done in my small garage at home. So cost to race is our limiting factor. Which is why I simply post on here and ask a question from hopefully those who have experience.

I appreciate everyones response and from them we'll decide whats usefull, but while we're paying the bills this has the No.1 effect on our decissions.

Cheers...

Yep had my R18 turbo d for 80,000 km would have done 20+ trackdays, used Nulon oil, never saw cloudy, infact oil often came out looking almost new after 5000km and a trackday,.probably had 15-20 oil changes. Car wasnt left sitting for.long

Had my 2.4 frank running for 25k now, only done 8 trackdays including 2 fulldays at both NSW and the world time attack, highest placed NA in clubspring, it gets driven once a fortnight now down the beach since i bought a jeep, Nulon e85 fuel stabilizer in the tank, again no issues.

Been running fuel stabilizers in my fishing boat for 3 years (1000cc 5ripple 2 stroke).

Just an amateur having fun. My R18 got 3 tunes for 98, caltex and United, K20 got tuned on United and my k20/24 has had the same treatment as my R18, has 2 united tunes for diff diameter and length intakes. United seems to work for me, Ive run expensive stuff a few times but i dont see its needed and i cant be arsed spending $4-8 / litre.

39erman
18-11-2015, 02:36 PM
Yep, at $7.80/ltr from VP Fuels thats $700 just for fuel over the weekend.

Of course if someone wants to sponsor us ☺☺☺😊

How many engine did u blow

Stevil
18-11-2015, 03:49 PM
Blowing R18s was fun, i knew the risks as id followed Yanky exp and R18 were cheap, Bending skinny rods cause too much boost and early spool. And bottom end failing after 140,000km of trashing at the track and boat towing.

Cbauto Ive always been honest with sharing my experiences. And yeah i guess id had heaps of local turbo R18 builds to follow lol.......

cbauto
18-11-2015, 03:51 PM
So. How many?

Stevil

Stevil
18-11-2015, 04:02 PM
2 x R18s, and i did the head on my first k20/24 down at the island, ended up.building what i should have. Now tossing up whether to stay NA or run a GTX3076R or GTX3576R for next years world time attack. No doubt more shit will blow thats fun just not the bills, need to upgrade my bottom end thou.

Hey carayan when R18 motors are cheaper than a set of tyres why not have fun and push the envelope ?? Had an awesome session at the creek at night 10psi and the shitty Sohc R18 made 180fwkw, had no trouble pulling 210kmh down the Creeks straight and a pb 1.50, thats a time I only beat recently with the K20/24 (which had better aero and less weight) !!

Hows your e85 experience ? Or you trolling aswell B-)
