Noise

I have a 1st gen 4 cyl Odyssey.
What's the loud noise like a vibration for about 1 sec that comes from under the hood shortly after turning the key on ?

Ah ok maybe.
Do they prime ? ... I didn't know that.
sometimes the noise is just after the engine starts.
I've had a little trouble lately with the engine not starting and I wondered if the noise might be fuel pump related.
When I have the trouble, the engine will start but stalls right away. The other day I tried to start it a dozen times in a row then gave up and took the other car.
What should I look for ?
