View Full Version : Thoughts on 01 DC5 Integra GSi as first car?

I've always been a car fan, but not a die-hard revhead. I know a lot about the design of cars but the actual engine and inner workings I have no clue about. I've saved up roughly 5k to buy a car and I came across an 01 DC5 GSi Integra that fits under my budget. It clocks in at under 180k kms and the car looks like it's in pretty good condition.
My main objective with the car is to probably drive from point A to B and probably apply a few mods here and there. I don't know much about the mod scene or the import scene so I'll be a frequent lurker on ozhonda for the next few months haha. My question is, is the car worth buying? My main qualm is that it has a B18, 1.8L engine rather than the stock K20, 2.0L engine that most DC5s have and I'm not sure if it's worth modding in the first place.
What do you guys think? Any help would be appreciated and I thank you in advance!
u mad?

Not sure that is dc5.
Dc5 has 3 main variance 1. Base k20A3, 2. type R k20a and 3. type S k20az
Dc5 is fun to drive... Save bait more $ to get a decent dc5 which you should be set.

That's the thing, I'm certain it's a DC5... The cosmetic difference between a dc2/dc4 and a dc5 is pretty big. I'm just not sure why it doesnt have the same base engine as the others..

mate
you don't know your integras....I suggest you research more on Ozhonda and the internets. I would avoid this car as either the seller is lying to you or something doesn't make sense.
You are are looking at a base dc5 or you are looking at a dc4 Gsi.
Its dam obvious which is which - which one is it ?

It's not a DC4.... I think the difference between a DC4 and DC5 is pretty big and I'm certain it's not a DC4. The listing says it has a 1.8L engine and that makes me thing that it probably has an engine switch bc all base DC5 come with the base K20, 2.0L engine.

it's a typo by the dealer. It's clearly a dc5 be it base - have you seen the car ?

Nope, but even in the specs, it's listed as a B18B1 engine so.... I'll check it out, it's a dealer selling it anyway

yes - the specs are filled out either automatically or manually by the seller. They could of advertised it with a motorbike engine or wind turbine all the same. It's a mistake by the dealer.

Ah LOL.... The ad didn't say it is B18, but I take that you think 1.8 => B18... As Ben said, must be a typo.
If I was you, I save a bit more to get a luxury version which has leather seats and few others :)
But if that is what you can... go with your feeling.

Yes. It's a typo. A mistake when entering details. Now go check it out and tell us about this one of a kind car for $5k

5k isn't too bad at all.
but then again it has nothing really exciting in it.
5k can get dc2 vtir with b18c2 in it. more exciting, but older car.

It's not too bad as a first car I guess but I'm aiming to do some mods to it in order to make it quicker. I've read the thread about basic mods but do you guys recommend anything that's worked well for you?

k swapped dc2 works well for me
but seriously don't buy a base model dc5 if you want to go fast. as above if u can handle owning an older car and can fix things yourself (more likely to have problems being an older car) then dc2 vtir may be the car for you

vtir dc2 would be quicker to begin with than base model dc5.
and there is more aftermarket mods for the b18c than the base model dc5.
5k might even get you a euro CL9.
which is better than dc5 base

If your looking for something thats gonna be a quick A to B car and you have 5k to play with.
Mate buy yourself a EG5 Stock.
DC5's.... I used own a DC5R, currently driving DC5S as daily, have worked on and diagnosed my mates lux model many times.
My Opinion the R was the best, sure it was slightly slower than the S, but the recaros + LSD make the world of difference.
As for the base, its okay if just A to B driving in a civil manner. Taking off normal pace, giving way to kunts etc etc its good, but hardly the hoons choice and wont react to basic modifications as well as the other motors.
I also gota say the leather seats even the Type S are shit, u slide around and on hot days the seat is waaaay to hot to seat on, needs seat covers.
Letme put it this way, if you wanted to overtake a curry in a camry, his gonna win, your gonna merge behind him in a modified lux dc5. (i've been there)
Oh les not forget about that terribad turning circle of DC5's fck me, in some streets in the city makes a 3 point turn in 5-8 attempts lols.
Also bumpsteer/torque steer 1/2 the fun of owning this model :)

I think in my last post I kinda made DC5 look bad, the truth is miss my R. Specially the last few weeks driving my Brothers S around.
Its on the spot as daily.
Its light, atleast I think so, compared to my current car.
Its easier to drive, being a FWD.
Clutchs are lighter so stop and go traffic is okay.
Does good on fuel, worse I get is like 10L per 100KM and thats not driving civil that much.
Its okay of the line as well so it does well in traffic again
The 6sp manual for K Series is one of the best feeling manuals I have driven.
Looks nice
A/C works well
Enough space in the back for friends, unlike other coupes.
Rear seats fold flat
Monster boot space
Look location for speakers for that doof doof effect.
IMO 4th best cross over is in the Type S, Type R would take 6th best (1. NSX 3 stage, 2. EK Type R, 3. S2k, 4. DC5S, 5. B18C, 6. DC5R)
Only thing it lacks is that low to mid range power, this where a turbo will fix your problems.
