Which Pads and Rotors .. car shudder while braking?

Hi Guys,

Driving over 80km/ph then normal braking, I get a shudder in the car and the steering wheel vibrates (can see it clearly) .. thinking the possibility that it could be a warped rotor.. I was wondering,

1. Average cost of machining and what trade does brake rotor machining?

2. If buying a new one.. assuming its one front rotor.. do I need to replace both ?

3. What brand/model for regular street driving (no performance/track stuff).. in this case, 05' Honda CRV

I'm a bit of a beginner, though have worked a little on cars with basic stuff... but have always just gone to supercheap / repco / autobarn ... and now, thinking about it.. where else can you buy this stuff from?

Are there any brands that perform better than the brands you buy from the above stores.. for the same or similar price?... or are there any decent brands that are actually cheaper?

I did watch a video clip earlier, and the mechanic was saying that often, aftermarket brake pads can be harder than the OEM rotors, and because of this, the pads can damage / warp the rotors .. anyone heard of this ?

1: Don't waste your time and money just get new ones these days there's plenty of brands on the market cheap enough.Here is a example of a cheap ebay set.

2: Yes you replace both fronts at the same time unless you have no option. Safe practice is to replace both and fit new pads so all surfaces make good contact.

3: I would say Bendix GCT it will work it's cheap and doesn't have that much brake dust also it's easy to bed them. If you don't know what that is. There is Bendix Ultimate which would be great for you less dust great stopping power but comes with a price.

How old are your current rotors? Sometimes people don't clean the bedding surface of properly and that creates shakes

1. Take it to any brake shop. should cost like $20 ea or something. Make sure they still have meat. If you've only ever run standard pads you'll probably have heaps of meat on the rotors left.

3. ive used Bendix GCT, they were fine for daily use. cant comment on rotors.

Best advice I can give is to use new pads with new rotors, CLEAN the rotors with brake cleaner thoroughly (important) and bed the pads in in the way the brake pad manufacturer tells you to

Ussually you can go into a brake specialist also, they do the machining of the rotor, they'll ask what vehicle its off to measure the thickness of the rotor to see if its got enough meat to machine off, cost fuk all

I'd replace both left and right at the same time also

I've bought from brakes direct, pads anyway, seems pretty cheap an knowledgeable, as for rotors, if you can, just get them from supercheap ect when they go on special

They do appear to be a good bunch.

Sounds like the piston in the caliper is seizing up.

For that u Just put a rebuild kit through the calipers.
