Hi guys, recently went to a mechanic and found out the engine has blown piston rings with low compression in one of the cylinders. Also there is a leak coming from the head gasket for my vtir. I was wondering whether it would be worth it to swap in a c7 engine or rebuild my one

u mad?

The c7 you buy will likely be fuked anyway with similar issues your current motor has, i'd consider the following:

If you are mechanically minded with time and tools, rebuild it your self or

Pay a known and trusted honda specialist to rebuild it for you or

kswap or

kswap

I'd have a chat to cbauto if you are wanting to speak to a Honda specialist.

Yeah. Most B-series engines will have issues by now. There's unfortunately no cheap option. If you are super confident with your own skills, a rebuild prolly wont break the bank. But if you wanting someone else to do it, costing $$$$ If it was me I would save for a K-swap...

+1 PM cbauto for best rate.

Why is there an assumption that all b series are fukd? OP a lot of wreckers do offer a warranty on engines, gearboxes ETC but yeah kswap

^This can be true. But I still think it's a risk. I swapped by b series from a running car and still needed pretty much every seal, pump and gasket replaced. If you 'know' the motor, then sure. But yeah, I'd prefer to know the motor is already thrashed and rebuild myself.

Find second hand engine, perform tests on it such as compression and leakdown prior to purchase. Take the valve cover off and have a look at the head. Take out the spark plugs and have a good look at them. Use an inspection camera down the spark plug holes into the cylinders if you have access to one.

Doesn't matter what series it is, any second hand engine can be rooted. Yes, more likely the older ones, but regardless it's always better to be safe than sorry in these cases.
