Not sure if your key has microchip for engine immobiliser in it or not?
I guess a cheap way to find out is ring Honda service department. If they dont know, then just cut one at K-mart, if you can start your engine with it, then u know u dont have immobiliser.

i don't think they are electronically coded, just like suggested above, go into k-mart, or just local hardware and get one cut and have a go it might just work :D

they're not coded, it's just a peice of metal, like a normal key.

no they have no transponder in them
also - honda sell a blank key you can get cut by any locksmith
not too expensive and still looks original (with the rubber honda shroud on it)

when they say 'coded' they don't always mean they have a transponder.
you would find most honda keys have like a 4 digit number on them, this is their 'code'

a honda dealer service dept could 'cut the key to code' which means instead of just copying your old worn key it is done by computer so it's in 'as new' condition :)

and as ecuman said the keys are expensive, it's not unusual for it to end up costing a few hundred dollars:o
(i work in honda service dept :p)

that code is the ignition code (4 digit pin)

Honda usually don't cut keys, we send them off.
we programe them with the HDS

Hmm, so i'd have to take my key into Honda and get them to make me another one? Would i have to bring proof that i own the car as well?

yeah the locksmith they use will have the codes loaded onto their computer. i'm guessing not all locksmiths would have it thats why i said take to a dealer.

transponder keys = pretty expensive
older keys = pretty cheap
