Hey guys and girls..

I have a 98 EK Civic and suddenly my speedo needle got screwed a week ago when i put new rims on. The speedo dosen't go past 50 k's and it does not come down as well when the engine is shut off. I went to an auto electrician but he said it will cost around 250 bucks to fix. I do not know if this is expensive or not. Also, he said that the sensor is not screwed but my needle. Can anyone help on how to fix this problem and where it would be the most cheapest to get the job done?

Thanks

Have you tried putting your original rims back on and seeing if it does the same thing? If it does the same thing, get a second opinion from another place and if you get quoted the same thing, you might as well change the cluster as CTR Coupe had mentioned.

Just my 5cents

I doubt the rims would have affected it.

Check your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) but it is most likely a cluster problem.

I have had speedo problems with my vtec crx and had to swap the vss (sensor on the dif that sends signal to cluster). The sensors are pretty cheap, mine was $70 from hondaworld wreckers in mel. It was pretty easy to fit too, I'd think about giving that a go before spending 250-350 on getting "professionals" to check it out. If you do just make sure you get the right one for your car because they all look the same but if you get the wrong one your speedo won't read right.

250 is a rip.. Try taking out the needle and put it back in place and reset ur ecu, happened before to a friend but problem solved.. n yes it is accurate again.. worth a try?
