So my son has had his EK1 keys stolen and has no spare ... yeah ... tell me about it ...

I see key/cylinders on ebay but how does that work with the RFID chip?

Do I need to get a complete ignition with the chip reader or is there a way to reset the key/chip?

Thanks

option 1
Call a Locksmith. They can cut a key using something like the boot barrel and program the transponder, some might send you to dealer for reprogramming.

Wont be cheap, 1/4 price of the car.

option 2
May not work, take the vin and rego paper work to a Honda dealer and see if they can still sort you out.

Wont be cheap either.

Ek1 not worth much.

You also might have luck finding the same model CAR as a wreck and take its barrel , locks , immob. keys and ECU etc

Thanks ... that's what I was thought might be the case.

Pity as it's a good reliable car. :-(

So does anyone know if Pick 'n Payless keep the keys to cars out for wrecking where I could get ECU, Ign block and barrel ... and a key ?

I was never sure if my key has a chip in it,I didn't think it did. Cheers ED mine is August 96 ek1 sedan.

I've replaced the ignition barrel years ago, $140 part . Just a direct swap over. .

Anyone know if my key has a chip,it looks basic, like it doesn't.

Hey Beeza

This one def has a chip.

When we first got the car there was only one key which had lost most of the black plastic section ant the chip was clearly visible and held in with sticky tape! ;-) I encased it in some resin which worked well. Had a spare cut and the chip cloned ($130 !). Son lost the original 6 months back and had his backpack, and keys, stolen yesterday but hadn't got another spare.

They say honda didn't start chipping civic keys until 2001.

Honda introduced factory immobiliser in 1996 in the Civic range, the Prelude, Integra, Legend, Accord, NSX, HRV and CRV all followed soon after with the chip in the key

How can you tell if you have a chip john? Pretty sure mine has an immobilizer. It's just the standard, simple key..

Yep both my ek4's are (were) chipped. I had an EG6 which had a slightly smaller key (not chipped). The ek4 key is still the black plastic unit but just a little bulkier around the plastic section. It's not obvious that there is a chip inside the casing, so just looking at it won't necessarily tell you whether it's a chipped key or not.

I bought a new chipped key from my local locksmith. It cost $90 from memory. They just cloned the original key.

If its AUDM EK, EM. EJ it left the factory with an immobiliser, you will have a green key that flashes on the cluster

EG did not have the factory immo

Can you clone an Immo key without the Red key ECU man
I only have one immo key and the dealer told me without the red key I'd have to replace everything

You can clone the last black key with out the red key

You cannot add OEM black keys at a dealer with out the red key.

It is possible to add red and black keys if all keys are lost however a dealer cannot help you with this as its not a conventional fix.

Ooooh how do i go about cloning that black key
A local mobile business whom the dealer uses quoted me almost $400
Im assuming it was to replace everything to do with the ignition and key system

If you are looking for someone local without the dealership tax, I can give you a hand.

If you're in Sydney there's a guy at Fairfield Markets on Saturdays who can clone the EK keys for $50; they look almost identical to the OEM ones including the H badge on the key.

I've had them do spares for my old EM1 and for my current EK4.
