Hey

i jus fitted the Hornet 881xp alarm in my car.... The alarm is really effective, especially the paging system...

But anyways, the alarm comes standard with remote engine start, so i thought i might as well install it. - BUT they wont install the engine start function, until they figure out a way that makes it impossible for the car to start in gear!!!

Does anyone know of a way around this situation???

Thanks

Normally, a remote engine kit will have a wire to the handbrake so that it starts only when the handbrake is up. Many installers won't install remote starts because there are alot of people who leave their cars in gear and when it's activated, it jerks the car and thus might cause damage to property and the installers don't want to be responsible for it even though they have warned the customer already.

I haven't seen of a way that makes the car impossible to start in gear unless there is some sort of computer that will recognise that the car is in gear.

As for newer cars with immobiliser chip in the car key (which tells the receiver in the ignition that it's the right key). The way to get around this is to duplicate the immobiliser and stick it near the ignition so that it constantly recognises the input...

i was looking at a remote start function and was told by the guys at autobarn that in manual cars it uses a switch that tells the alarm/imobiliser if the car is in neutral or not... however they also told me that these can wear out and may allow the car to start in gear later on when they wear out a bit.

just a note, as far as i am aware, starting the car remotly (ie, with u not in it) is illegal, and also, prolly not best idea to announce what alarm setup u got on a public forum...

hope all works out for ya
