My car was hit by the recent flooding and unfortunately I don't have any insurance on it (first time after 10 years of no incidents I decided to cancel it too =\). Anyways engine won't turn over and it appears the water got up to at least the seats. It was parked on a slant so it did manage to get on top of the passenger seat but not the drivers seat.. Not sure where the ECU is but the fuse box definitely got wet. I noticed some water coming out of the exhaust and decided to stop trying to start it. It's Sunday today so won't be able to take it to a mechanic. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

The ecu sits under the headunit . So if fusebox got wet the the ecu definately got water cause they are thr same height

Thanks for the posts guys.

Looks like it probably would have hit the ECU then... I hadn't touched the car for 5-6 days so hopefully it would have dried out by then?

I'm getting the car detailed tomorrow and will take it to a mechanic... Funnily enough I actually found footage of my car on facebook (zooms in around 23s and is the black car inbetween the white wagon and the small car):

Ok what you wanna do is to open the side. And maybe even take the ecu out to dry..

https://www.hondata.com/tsx_ecu_removal.html

Obviously don't touch the steering column but the rest is pretty much the same.

The ecu plugs. Pull it out and insert a few times in case the connecters had started to rust this way you might be able to scrape the surface rust off.

Thanks Fred. Will follow this guide. There were two other things I noticed:

- the airbag light is on but hasn't been deployed. All the other electronics seem to work including aircon
- gear shift is locked and the brake pedal is held at the bottom. I released the gear shift (via pressing down small switch next to it) but brake was still locked.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.

Just pulled out the ECU, was still wet. Same as the SRS airbag unit. Checked the airfilter and it was still dry so at least nothing got into the engine. Gonna dry out the ECU and airbag unit and check for any damage, was probably shorting with all the water around. Fingers crossed there wasn't any damage otherwise worst case may be to replace it. Haven't checked all the fuses but so far none has blown.

I just put the ECU back in and it failed to start.. looking to find a replacement. Not sure what's compatible?
The sticker reads:
37820-RBB-E57
CY-EH2586A
A7J-3

I found some on ebay one has 37820-RBB-Q57

Would this be compatible?

No worries. Any idea on how to fix an issuer with the indicator on the dash for the gear position (P/R/N/D/etc)?

Pull the bulb out, problem solved :)

Not sure about that but it maybe ecu related but all that water may have messed some wires up.. When it completely dries it should be fine.

pm 'ecu-man' he will be able to tell you what's up. Very knowledgeable guy!

At work inside the lab we have a small oven with adjustable temperature.
If I want to dry a circuit board I would turn it to 50C and leave it overnight. If you can access an oven which can be adjusted to about 50, you should try it.

There is no bulb. They are all SMD LEDs the the Euro.

I know cause I took one apart and changed colour of the dials to red.

37820-RBB-E57 is thr honda part number, the other 2 codes are chipset and panasonic part numbers (CL9 uses a matsushita ecu, which is a sub brand of panasonic)

To break down the part number:

37820-RBB-E57:

37820 : part I'd, 37820 means ECU

RBB : vehicle/engine I'd, RBB is is really cl9 accord euro bit's, RAA is cm2/4 Wide body accord

E : Region ID, E = Europe, J = Japan, A = America, Q = Rest of the world

57: part version I'd, 57 = Automatic, 07 =manual

So you need some thing with the 57 part version ID.

Now... whichever ecu you endup using... You'll need to have honda re match the immoboliser. Else th car won't start.

Immoboliser code is stored on the ecu also. Hence....

Remove the led then..

'ecu-man' can convert auto ecu to manual or anything else cheap.

Thanks so much for the info! I ended up getting an ECU with the exact same part number just to be safe.. Looking for a place in Sydney to reprogram.. the price range is ridiculous I found as low as $66 (from a Honda service centre) all the way up to $250..

Just an update for those interested - just picked up the car and it is running now! Will open it apart and go over all the electronics with electrical contact spray to prevent corrosion and take out the carpet and give it a proper clean. Thanks all for the help!
