..what to do.
i've got about about $1000 to play around with. (want to use less if possible)
what i want: Quality sound but lots of bass. Mainly RNB/HipHop music
I've already got a Sony HU (54x4kw max) (gf game to me so i'm stuck with it).
I need:
6" Front Componet speakers
6" Rear Coaxial Speakers (i have Cadence 6x9's but they won't fit, stil use it?)
Sub+box
Amp
I was thinking
Speakers, Sub and 4/2ch amp. The speakers will be running off the HU and the sub off the Amp.
Where to go in Sydney?
I have no idea which place is the best/cheapest.
I've been to JB-HiFi, Motoequip and Strathfield car radios.
Motoequip had this mad 12" SoundStream sub, it went off. Shook Westfields Burwood up. Price $600 including the box which made a difference (it was side mounted)
So yeh, any help would be good...
thankz
We're more than happy to hlp you out but I can guarantee you we're not the cheapest around because we tae a lot of pride in what we do. You'll very quickly discover that cheap labour is exactly that. :(
If you're on such a small budget then why are you worrying about the rear speakers at all? Seeing as you're sitting at the front and your ears face forwards. I would instead suggest you do the system in stages. Something like:
Stage 1: Splits and deadening.
Stage 2: Amplifier and cable.
Stage 3: Subwoofer and enclosure.
That way by the end of the exercise you have great quality sound without buying half the equipment you really don't need. :)

The rear stock speakers, if i leave them in there, won't it blow?
Also, should i just get a 2/4ch amp to run the subs, leave the speakers on the HU?
What brands/product you rekonmend.
Also can you tell me why two subs that are identical sound so different in different sub boxs?

the bigger the sub box, the more deeper the boom is. its the internal volume (cubic inches) that matters.

using an amp to run your speakers would get the most out of them, they will sound better at a louder volume instead of just running them of your headunit. also in regards to blowing speakers, if you follow the power ratings you should be fine, speakers have a peak power rating and a required minimum power rating or rms to run them. dont go over the peak power rating but power them at least at the minimum required rating and you will get the most from your speakers.

yups.. thats wat i reckon... :) Good Luck
Guys, some of the replies here have been spot on but others I'm afraid are way off the mark regarding sound quality.
Remember that your ears face forward and you're at the front of the vehicle. For this reason there is absolutely no advantage of having splits in the rear so far as staging goes. More importantly though (regarding power and volume); unless you run surround sound or you constantly have mates in the back, there is little reason to have poweful speakers in the rear or speakers at all for that matter. It is for this reason we always recommend the best quality speakers and the most power goes to the front and the rears are turned right down. That way you're the one who enjoys the benefits of all the power and quality.
Many of the worlds best competition systems (and even our cars that just took out five trophies at the lastest NSW sound off) only run quality splits at the front and subwoofer in the rear. Many do not even bother with rear speakers because once the car is stadged and imaged correctly the music surrounds you and fill the listeninf area nicely. A quick note on amplification; many of those cars run a two channel for the front and monoblock for the back. That way the THD stays low for the front speakers and the internal capacitence is plentiful for the subwoofer. :)
One other thing I should mention too Dimsum. If the budget is quite low you can also consider spcecial amplifiers like the Audison SRx3 and the like. These dedicated system amplifiers have channels 1 and 2 designed to run the fronts with quite low THD while the third channel is a dedicated high capacitence subwoofer channel, offering more power at the expense of THD.
Remember when using a four channel amplifier and simply bridging channels 3 and 4 for your sub you're not only doubling power but doubling distorton levels too. ;)

i reccommend either
3channel amp for 1x12" (or 10" sub) and front stage splits.
or
1 channel amp for sub and 2channel amp for front stage splits.
no real need for rear stage imo.
1 channel amp for sub and 2channel amp for front stage splits.
no real need for rear stage imo.
As fhrx said, do it in stages. Obviously budget plays a major roll but basically;
1 - HU, Splits, Deadening
2 - Amp, cableing
3 - Sub/Box, Sub amp
Note on cableing (when/if u get to it). Run thick enough gauge to support future amps ;)

is deadening needed that much???
If you're serious about sound it most certainly is (http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/faq.asp#27). :D

Oh right.
Also a question (the never stop do they^^) about subboxs. Is 'bigger the space, the deeper the sound' like, more space inside the box?

Noted: I played around with the Front/Rear blanace in the car, the rears seems to provide the most sound. If i set the balance to the 50/50, the sound volume and quality was at its best. If the fronts are powered by a amp and rears arnt, will that change the balance?

no!
each sub has its own recommended sub enclosure size.
and ported is better then fully sealed...
