hey guys i am using the honda stock cd player with a sony cd stack and the problem with it is that when i play cds off the stack the sound comes out a lil differently compared to the stock cd player or any other cd player it sounds kind of like the radio.
i dont kno much about audio config but do get to the cd stack ive got to tune the radio to fm1 (88.3 from memory). this may have something to do with the problem?
any1 know how i can get the cd stack playing properly? ta,
Can you define the term 'different' for us please howard.
Is the stacker running through an FM modulator?

ahhh the fm modulated stacker - good if you don't want to replace the factory deck but ratshit if you want sound quality
basically this is your problem ...
the human ear can hear sounds in a bandwidth of approx up to 20000 Hertz
this happens to basically be the bandwidth of your average cd so if you listen to a cd you get all the information from 20 to 20000 hertz ...
fm stereo only has a bandwidth of about 100 to 15000 hertz so you miss out on all that musical information below 100 and above 15000 hertz - hence the difference in sound quality when you play a cd through an fm radio stacker ...
cassettes are even worse - about 150 to 12000 hertz - no wonder they sound like crap !
just for your information a DVD has a frequency bandwidth of up to 96000 hertz ( lots more information on those discs )
these are approximate figures only - I'm working from memory here :)

would it matter if i was to use a different brand HU which also had the cd stack control function?
edit - also how would i be able to find out if the stack is FM Modulated itself? the manual for it is long gone too.

check with a sony dealer they should be able to get you a deck to power the old stacker (you'll need the model of the stacker) you should get a big improvement in sound quality and a bonus in that most aftermarket decks have many more features than the factory deck ...

so can any kenwood stacker work with my stock kenwood headunit? The cord that connects to the stacker is already there but car had no stacker when bought :(

give your kenwood model number to a kenwood dealer they should be able to check if there is still a stacker made that will work ... unfortunately most manufacturers seem to change their software/cables every couple of years so an old deck won't run a current model stacker ... :thumbdwn:
