Beefy-LS

would u guys know how to fix a crunching gear???? i crunch in gear 3 at about 4000 revz

LO_N_SXC
22-04-2005, 04:22 PM
I have the same problem but in 4th gear, it the syncro's that are giving in, I suggest changing the oil first and if no good then its your syncro for 3rd going on its way out!

Beefy-LS
22-04-2005, 04:26 PM
thanks for the info dude.....i will change my gearbox oil as soon as i get a chance and i will let u know of the outcome

WAH!?

I get BP Ultimate and its 40litres without my tank being completely empty...

FR33K
22-04-2005, 07:08 PM
its 50 litres

crispy
22-04-2005, 07:13 PM
Thats weird.. I notice that my tank is about 40 litres when i fill it up from basically empty, so i dunno how you other guys have different thoughts on the size. Maybe Honda changed them from the 90-91 model and the 92-93??

i'd say your fuel guage is off. they are only about 90% accurate

im not exactly sure on how many Litres my tank can take but driving it moderately i can get 500+ km of around town driving

mooshie
23-04-2005, 02:27 PM
on my old motor i used to get about 380km from 35L and using ultimate it jumped cosiderably to about 450km! i have a log of this consumption too done over about 18 months so this isn't just what i think its actually tested over about 100 tanks of fuel. on my current motor i get about the same as long as i stay out of the VTEC zone!

dc2dc2dc2
23-04-2005, 03:25 PM
wtf? so mooshie, u rekon its worth paying extra money for BP ultimate? coz i just used unleaded. But then again, the price difference, guess it works out the same? but better fuel?

Beefy-LS
23-04-2005, 05:02 PM
soo....what should i use.....Ultimate or unleaded??? seeing as u guys say that if u poor ultimate u get more k's

Boost Cruisin
23-04-2005, 05:18 PM
i use bp ultimate or ultimate 98 and get heaps better fuel consumption than i did before

Jnr_Mint
23-04-2005, 07:43 PM
I usually put in about $35-40 of fuel in my car and most of the time i get around the 350k area. I find it doesnt matter whether i drive normal or push it i get around the same figures

Crispy your sayin you think your tank may be 40 Litres! is that because when u fill it up u put in about $40 .. coz i put in $40 to, and my guage reads full...full to the point that it passes the FULL line...

majic777
23-04-2005, 07:56 PM
when the guage shows E, there should still be around 10 litres in there.. the most ive got from a tank of optimax is 630km off 45L, that was on a trip... i usually run regular tho and get around 500-550 normally (i live in the country, bit of highway driving)

car is 100% stock '89 LS manual with 207,000km's

g3vtir
24-04-2005, 11:20 AM
The most i got from my old LS was 535km on a full tank...and that was from an engine with 300,000+ kms on it. If i thrash it around i get about 480km.

integrity
25-04-2005, 09:40 AM
the tank is 50 litres
i think its 9.5 per 100 kmh for normal driving and 7.6 per 100 kmh on highway driving
so its not that good yet not that bad

GYPO2C
26-04-2005, 01:54 PM
guys my 91 teg def has atleast a 50 ltr tank. im really bad with leaving my tank dry and there has been times where i have put in 48.5 litres into my car. the car definitely has a 50ltr tank.... on the majority of my fills im putting around 45ltrs in the car... and i dont get any less than 500kms out of the tank, and i do traffic driving every single day. BP Ultimate is the best. Another thing ive noticed....whether i thrash the car or drive it like a granny ill only get about 20kms difference in the tank....

frozenchook

GYPO2C
27-04-2005, 08:34 AM
nah mate....mine is fine... my needle is actually extremely accurate....

hey this may be a stoopid question but does every LS not have a petrol warning light.... nothing has ever flashed in my car and like i said ive had next to no petrol in my car at times.....

Beefy-LS
27-04-2005, 08:38 AM
yeh mate...i don't think that i have a petrol light too, well it has never gone off

dc2dc2dc2
27-04-2005, 09:28 AM
there is no petrol light in LS unfortunately! far out..my needle moves up and down heaps, stupid fuel gauge! i have no idea how u guys get 500kmz to a tank!i get like 350-380 and thats not gunning it!

GYPO2C
27-04-2005, 09:32 AM
maybe get the timing on your car checked out and DEFINITELY use a 98 octane fuel.... i personally prefer the BP Ultimate.... since i used it i have been getting 50-100kms more per tank.....

dc2dc2dc2
27-04-2005, 09:34 AM
yeah...i probably will start using BP ultimate...how much more expensive is it compared to normal Unleaded?? IM ON A TIGHT BUDGET BEING A STUDENT! =X So u rekon it works out the same compared to unleaded? coz im gettin' more kmz?

GYPO2C
27-04-2005, 09:40 AM
on avg it costs 9cents more per litre but it more than makes up for it with the extra km's you get, and lets not forget the fact it makes your car go harder and smoother....

FR33K
27-04-2005, 02:51 PM
i got a warning light ;)
but it doesnt work

majic777
27-04-2005, 07:05 PM
fuel needles in cars often move around a bit depending on how you drive... if you accelerate hard in my car the needle will go down a bit, then when you ease off it'l come back up again, i think its just the fuel moving around in the tank making it change

GYPO2C
28-04-2005, 07:25 AM
yeh thats correct....if im running someone a couple of lights in a row, my needle will show almost 1/4 of a tank less but then when i start driving normally again it goes back.
Dont forget also that when you are on a hill either down or up your fuel gauge will show either more or less. when im standing on a down hill my gauge shows more petrol, when im on an uphill it shows less. Its just due to the position of the fuel sensor in the tank, and as majic777 said the way the fuel is moving in the tank

when i used to have my rx7 i noticed a bit of difference in the fuels (car used to ping with mobil fuel) - i dont think it would matter much in this case tho

i usually use caltex/shell or bp fuel as they are close to home :o

i get like 500 to 600kms off my LS tank

i thought they were 40L to thats weird mine always past full when i fill it up

my fuel light has neva been on though

the reason ur fuel gauge changes when u drive round is because of the position of the sensor and the tank u will notice goin uphill it will go down adn goin down hill it will go up or woteva my dad was saying its extremely hard and expensive to stop that from happening its normal...

its the same i duno if u guys notice but my first half of a tank goes really slow but my bottom half of it is really fast its just how the tank is made and would b hard to keep it all even

ok well ive just tried using 2 different types of fuels. i filled up about 48ltrs of caltex regular (4c discount baby!) and i got about 553kms b4 i had 2 fill up. after filling up at work (7-eleven use shell fuel), i filled up 48ltrs again, and ive done 570 so far, and my needle is just above red. usually i can go for about 80kms once i hit red b4 i need to fill up.

all i have on my car is a simota intake and exhaust.

couple of weeks earlier i filled up full tank, drove for about 232km and filled up my tank to full again. it took 17ltrs (shell fuel). so it works out to about 7.3lts/100kms with a mix of traffic and hwy driving.

30-10-2005, 09:23 AM
My 89 I only get about 150km by the time i get down to half a tank and thats with optimax (go the 4c discount!). Theres no mods on the car to my knowledge and I dont drive it hard. Will try ultimate and see how that goes...

lol i dont mean to offend you dude but its not a very straightforward thing to do.
if you are serious about it though read up on it, because if you botch it up you can potentially turn your engine into an oversized paperweight.

G'day all,
I'm new to your forum, I was also interested in my Integra's fuel consumption, its a 1994 LS 5 speed 120 k lady owner since new, I am the second owner, I did 530 klm on 40 litres, my old SS 2001 ute did 450 on 70 ltres (with edit) GETTING only 350 klm is quite poor maybe a lighter foot or getting the car serviced will help with fuel economy.

[QUOTE=A-man;1414625]u kno u can run them past the empty dash on the gauge though right?

I used to get around 30 extra klm on my old ute once it hit red on the fuel dial
NOTE: its not good practice to run it that low, because it syfes up all the crap from the bottom of the tank and ends up blocking your lines and injectors. just something to think about....

Just had a quick look through this thread, dating right back to 2005 but I bought a 91 LS about two months ago. I've been driving it every week to and from work in the city. The tank holds 50 litres and I get 650kms per tank consistently every two weeks I fill up. Only changes I made to it when I bought it was change the engine oil, new oil filter and new NGK standard plugs. And that's using standard 91 octane unleaded not even 95 or 98 octane!

Driving Styles

I think a lot depends on your driving style and the condition of your car.

Here are some tips I recommend to increase fuel economy:

Avoid aggressive driving. Flooring the pedal wastes fuel, especially in stop-start city traffic. One second of high-powered driving can produce nearly the same volume of carbon monoxide emissions as a half hour of normal driving. At most intersections I'm in 3rd before I get across the intersection! When driving a manual transmission, shift up as soon as possible. Running in a higher gear decreases the rpm and will decrease fuel use and engine wear.

I like to look ahead so if the traffic lights have turned red I engage neutral and coast to a stop. I also coast down hills and other inclines, especially, as I said, if there are lights at the bottom. So think ahead. Try to anticipate stops and let your vehicle coast down as much as possible. Avoid the increased pollution, wasted gas, and wear on your brakes created by accelerating hard and braking hard. I see people every day shift down through the gears whilst revving their engines as they come to a stop. That's money and fuel out the window! Most times when I've slowed down well in advance by the time I get to the lights they have changed to green so I avoid stopping altogether and having to use 1st or 2nd gear. Cruising pays off with less stops and smoother transitions up the gears.

Follow the speed limit! Driving 80kms instead of 60 kms will lower your fuel economy by about 10 percent. I travel to work early in the morning when its cool so the car gets nice cool induction air not the hot air from the car in front when you travel during "peak hour". I only travel at the limit usually 60 kph. On the M4 Freeway I stay on 90-95kph and avoid lane changing and accelerating wherever possible. I keep the windows up as a common story is that having the windows down is like adding another person to your car.

Make sure your car is clean. Take a load off. Carrying around extra weight (say the equivalent of another person) reduces fuel economy by about 1 percent.

Try using the vents and opening windows to cool off before you turn on the air conditioner. Air conditioner use increases fuel consumption.

Don't ride the clutch at stops. A lot of drivers 'hold' the car by balancing the accelerator and clutch. This affects fuel economy too. Use the handbrake to keep the vehicle stopped with neutral engaged.

Maintenance Tips

Keep your tyres at the pressure recommended for your vehicle; this information is often printed inside the door frame or in your owner's manual. Fuel economy goes down by about 1 percent for every couple of PSI your tyres are down. I run mine at 36PSI and check them every other week. Underinflated tyres can also detract from handling, safety, and how long they last.

Check your own fuel economy every few weeks. If you notice it slipping, that could mean you have a minor problem with the engine or your brakes. Using this advance warning, you can fix problems before you have a breakdown on the road.

Get a tune-up. Be sure to check for worn spark plugs, dragging brakes, and low transmission fluid; have your wheels aligned and tyres rotated; and replace the air filter if needed. Make sure all used vehicle fluids are recycled or disposed of safely.

Change the oil. In addition to making your car last longer, replacing the oil and oil filter regularly will also help fuel economy. Check your owner's manual for specific recommendations about how often to change. Ask the service station if they recycle used oil, or if you do it yourself, take your old oil to someplace that does recycle.

The short answer is "No". Shifting throught the gears and only applying enough accleerator to keep up the momentum will make for smooth driving, less braking, and less stopping, increasing fuel consumption. Like I said, I'm consistently getting 650 kms to the tank. Last week I got to 640 kms and still had a litre in the tank when I filled up.
