hey guys,
just wondering if any of you have any certain type of clutch fluid you would recommend. i used castrol response super dot 4 brake fluid which is actually rated at dot 5.1. but i was just wondering whether using a specialised clutch fluid or a certain type of fluid would be worthwhile? by the way i have a heavy duty clutch. (dont know if that makes any difference to what fluid to use or not though).:) thanks.

im interested to know this as well, what kind of brake fluid do u use on the track
and does brake fluid have a heat rating?, ie heats up too quick makes brakes fad or spongee
i've been told to use castrol high performance brake and clutch fluid, how is OEM rated compared to the castrol stuff?

Brake fluid is pretty much the same as clutch fluid. It lubes the systems and still likes to suck up water. Thus closed circuits. For races we hit up our friends at Pegasus Auto Racing (http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/home.asp) and get their brake fluids (http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=BRAKEFLUID). We use the Castrol SRF Brake (http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3343) or AP PRF 660 Racing Brake (http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3338) but for street apps I just use OEM or Vavoline like all my other fluids. Only one company to sue if something goes wrong!!

I try. It took me longer to get the links than to type it all out. Peg. doesn't carry a lot of parts for Hondas but they have add ons and shop supplies we like. Also the prices are a little higher than some but almost everything is in stock when we order it. You can also try http://www.summitracing.com or http://www.jegs.com . They might have parts you are looking for. I know Summit has Homda parts but we don't use Jegs so I don't know about them.

You can use DOT3, 4 and 5.1
You CANNOT and MUST NOT use DOT5.
If you use DOT5, you must continue to use DOT5 for the rest of your car's life. If you go back to DOT3, 4 or 5.1, when the two mix, it will eventually form a gel in your brake system.
For clutch, I'd use Honda OEM brake fluid, or some DOT 3 or 4 fluid. DOT5.1 tends to absorb water quicker than DOT4, so I would rather use DOT4, even on the track.
For brake fluid, I'd use 5.1 on the track. My Honda fluid broke down before the end of the track day. But even with 5.1, you still should change your brake fluid after the track day.

All the fluids on the Pegasus site are DOT 3 or 4, no 5 or 5.1, so no worries there. Any race team would be fine with any fluid, as they tend to tear down the cars between races so there iasn't a cause for concern. I wouldn't use any fluid on a streetcar that could cause jelling or issues later down the road with compatibility. Stick with what works, DOT 3 or 4.
