my 2 cents...
sell your car and put that with the 14gs and buy a Type R ...
otherwise state if u wanna stay NA or go force induction...

do you want a new car or an old car?
do you want all creature comforts?
do you like the look of eg's or ek's?

go get an EG or EK and b18 that sucker... like u said ;)

aslong as car is in good cond i dont mind how old.
some creature comforts would be good but not a priority.
i must say im about 50/50 with eg's and ek's

well, if you're not too fussed about which civic, then I'd recommend the EG.. cos then you'll have a bit more cash after the conversion to spend on other things like luxuries or mods.. etc etc.

good point tripitaka
i'm hearing alot of different prices thrown around about how much the conversion would cost i researched and it seemed to be about 7.2k
does this seem expensive to everyone else?

so i'm guessing u only care about how quick the car performs??..
track car or daily driver??...

i say you should call up recommended places and get a solid quote instead of approximations, so you know how much u really need to pay, and which places do the best jobs.. etc..

nah i dont only care how quick it performs but i want to make sure i have a good engine in there in the first place and build around that.
i recon i could put up with the car looking alright and driving like a dream for about 2 months while i save up for some other mods

If I was in your shoes, i would rather get the EK and then work on a conversion from there. EG's are pretty old but if you're into performance motivated the EG is lighter, hence quicker.
I know of someone who's selling one. Going price is 19k neg. PM if you're interested. Also, there's a resprayed blue EG civic with a type-r conversion in it also, it's got the works (5 stud conversion, dc5r wheels, etc) more details available if you search carsales.com.au for civic type-r.
Good luck with it d00d!

yeh i only know one recommended place and thats good performance center
who have given me few different quotes for a few different engines
seems to have a good rep but talking to charlie on the phone is funny cos i dont really know what he's saying most of the time hahaha
nicest guy though and he has been very helpful
rang a few other places and they didnt know what a b18c or b16a was

np's mate!
haha, didn't know what a b16a or a b18c was? i'd stay away from places like that!
btw, as i quoted above, the civic going for $19k neg is a purple EK.
I take that you're probably more interested in starting from scratch? If you were thinking of a b16a conversion into an EK, I don't think that's a wise option when you can already buy a vti-r civic which has a b16a in it already which you probably already know. :D
Put a b18c into a civic, you won't regret it :)

thanks again badsector been a great help
have my eye on a few cheap eg's
very cheap one but has tiny damage to front lip
how much you recon an eg front lip would be?
also how much would cut and polish be around a bouts?
sorry for the off topic questions

could just find a VTI-R hatch for 14k
shep9ky
24-04-2005, 06:42 PM
that may take a really long time
i just sold my car about 5 mins ago
and i need a car within the next month
meh just buy an EG civic any model apart from the breeze and turbo the crap out of it
bonus is that if you get the gli u can have spare engine galore at a cheap price.
U only need to worry abt your turbo setup. Then u need to find sumone to tune and get the turbo kit all up for ya.
If your in Melb pm pornstar, plenty of ppl will vouch for him on turbo kits

yeah, where are you? i know a few good places for conversions, but all in brisbane/ Gold Coast, Northern Nsw...
personally, i would go the EG, and (if you got the cash) b18c5 or 7 it. if getting just a b18c1, then would better to get a b16a.
but yeah, thats my personal opinion..

if you want it done in sydney, ring online performance. they know Hondas inside out and ill give you an accurate estimate for whatever conversion you want.
before i did my conv., i rang them a few times with q's, and they were always happy to answer even tho they knew they wern't getting any business from it..(well ultimately they did, coz i was so happy with their service to a non-customer i later bought aftermarket bits from them!)

with 14, u probably only enough for eg shell and b18c conversion.
ek shell is more costly.
good luck.

cool so you now have 2k to spend on suspension and making go fast round corners.
shep9ky
25-04-2005, 08:55 PM
yeh true first thing though is the springs are way too low
whats the quickest way to remedy this
so i can drive it without thinking the front is going to get ripped off every time i go fast
i will spend more on suspension but first what do you think i could about the springs
they said they were compressed or something not cut sois it possible to ummmm uncompress them?
i dont know anything about suspension at all

shep9ky
25-04-2005, 09:11 PM
i definately will be going down the b18 track
and using my b16a head
will probs look around for b18 short block and sell the b18 head
but thats another 1000 questions ill ask you guys anyways
