this is how fault finding works
you have to tell us what is in your car i.e. brand or equipment and DON'T leave out a single thing...
what car is it?
what deck is it?
what amp is it?
do you have splits?
if so, where are the crossovers mounted?
where did you pick up your power for the amp and also the deck?
did you use good quality RCA's or cheap sh!t?
did you run the power and RCA cables on the same side of the car?
get at what i'm asking? :)

oh the most important thing...
did you do the job yourself or was it done by a store???

if ur speakers amped then its prob ur RCA's are stuffed or else its ur grounding (earth) job was bodgy....

also if ur rca's and power is on the side then it might be ur prob too

I ran my power cable down the side, rca's down the middle. Still makes a slight buzzing sound when I drive but not as bad as some.

i had that problem too, its engine noise inteference or some rubbish. You can get a filter from jaycar that cuts it down heaps. I put mine in and it cut it down HEAPS, yeh, go to jaycar and get a engine noise filter, pretty straight forward, im sure dick smiths prolly has em as well. about $30

so how can you say its this or its that? when you dont even know what brand it is, for all you guys know it could be BOSS AUDIO and in that case id say, YOU GOT A BOAT? :D

That is the lazy mans way out of a dodgy install, there is NO WAY that good quality NAME BRAND equipment will give out noise unless there is a fault with it.
Noise filters are a band aid solution to a dodgy install as i have mentioned.
If the install is done properly (with knowledge in car audio and cars) there should be NO noise what so ever. Noise filters are someones idea to make money...

If you didnt read the question that was asked ICACHA, we were getting asked how to fix the problem, we werent asked to critique his install. A noise filter is a quick fix. I know this. But it will fix the problem. Obviously the best result comes from a good install but if the install isnt the best or the equipment being used isnt the best. The noise filter is a means to an end.

well asking to fix a problem is like saying can you see *via forum* what my install is all about.
he/she could of mentioned what type of equipment and where it is located and where the cables are run not to forget what type of car so its a little easier to diagnose the problem.
how would you *BiGANG* like to solve something you that you have NO IDEA in what the system consists of?
please think before you say something :)

if people are asking to find out how to possibly fix their problem, arent we allowed to give our opinion? I never said i knew what his problem was or what his system consisted of, i just suggested a general possibility of rectifying it. Its better than getting a 'which one of you guys works in car audio?' statement. Instead of attacking everyone elses suggestions how about you give one yourself or dont say anything at all.

umm...back to the topic..
my friend had a similiar problem he brought a car with a system in it and you can constantly hear this whistling/buzzing noise and it did get louder as the car accelerated...i dont know whether it happened with the radio but it did definately when playing cds...what we were told to do by a friend was to dont quote me but seperate the amplifier power cable and the speaker cables....i think...sorry cant be definate but yerr it might be your problem but then again if you dont have a subwoofer then my essay was pointless
cheers

JAYCAR and Strathfield have NOISE suppressors which will fix any kind of engine noise :D
People that actuall do it for a living don't know how to fix engine noise...

While I'm not in the car audio business, I have done a few installs (paid in beer :D ). From that I've seen with this kind of problem, its best to keep your low voltage cables (RCAs) as far away from your high voltage cables (power and ground) as possible and to keep them away from things like the ECU and stuff. Good quality interconnects give better resistance to EM interference as well (I've read that quality twisted pair RCAs give good results).
I used stinger twisted pair interconnects and ran them down one side of the car (drivers side - charade) with the power down the other side for an under passenger seat install (amp and deck were base model Schneider) and got no audible intereference..

Streetwires make a zero noise RCA cable, maybe you could try those? Though you say that it only happens with cd, not radio so it could be a problem with your head unit? Im not an expert, wont claim to be, just throwing ideas out here. If this wasnt the case, why would it only happen to cds not radio?

the buzzing noise you hear is giving out from the engine, thus you have to check the ground cable if it's secure probably, check earth cables are not/touching the power cable.
