hi there guys, my 91 EG honda civic has done 274,000 and now i really wonder how much longer have i got to go??? ............
ive done the usual servicing, changing oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs every 10-15,000 kms.........

but thats all ive done,
would a full service from a mechanic make a big difference to the lifespan of the engine??..........you know

flushing radiator
flushing brake system fluid
cleaning injectors
replacing fuel filter
flushing transmission fluid
flushing power steering fluid
etc..................

what more needs to be done if i want this engine to last longer??.....
or would it be better to buy a halfcut say a d16/b16 / b18 and bolt it on???
i do a considerable amount of KM's.........

by the way whats the most amount of KM's a d16a8 has done that anyone seen

Just stick to the log book for service intivals, dont skimp on the major servicing. use good oil and genuine parts, she will go alot longer with sensible driving.

so maintain servicing and drive it till it blows, you will be waiting a while.

Hondas are known for the reliability, hondas usually last very long....274,000 isnt much for a honda

274 is nothing mate. Don't worry..if u treat it well, it will get to 350,000 kmz easy!

Nothing lasts forever.........but 250K without a major rebuild is good by any standard IMO!

my CRX D16A8 engine had done a grand total of 309,000 before I did engine swap to B16A ... the D16A8 is sitting in my garage and was still in superb condition when I took it out ... never had a rebuild never had any major engine problems ... biggest drama was the crank pulley bolt cracked and the pulley was wobbling on my way to the workshop for service but was replaced with no drama at all to the engine.

and yeah the car and engine did get quite a beating but regular servicing and maintenance made it see 300k with not a worry in the world ... the Honda dealer up the road from me said the engines have easily 400k without rebuild if treaded right and looked after well.

how often would you consider 'regular' services to be - both major and minor?

what about if my d16a8 engine suddenly eats a little bit of oil from time to time??
does oil evaporate suddenly?? i dont have a serious oil leak at all, but i find myself topping up oil in it sometime.........

by the way whats a good oil to use for a d16a8??
and where is the fuel filter for a EG honda civic 91, sedan??

Fuel filter is in the engine bay near the brake master cylinder (it's against the firewall).

Goodluck to ya bro, dont run anything more than 8psi or you'll kill iit on absolutely no time at all.

The first thing to go on my Gen 2 Crx was the gearbox.

The mistake I made was to spend $2000 on the gearbox when I should have spent $6500 on a B16A2 swap which comes with a much stronger gearbox (and mad engine of course)

You prob ahave another 100,000 k's in the engine if you change the oil etc.. every 5000's and dont thrash it.

i plan to run about 6-7psi...gearbox was only $450 and im doing the work myself....
even if i do blow it up i have a second d16a8 in my garage with 120k's on it waiting fors its chance to boost ;)
