I own a 86 civic atm, early next year im buying new car, about $25K to play with (thats including maybe mods like exhaust/ecu or whatever) and been looking at few cars. I have a company work van so this car will only be used on weekends and mainly mountain runs.

Im verrrrrrry intrested in a DC2 Type R, but have few q's

What year to get? Which year had every upgrade? The 98+ ones are differant arnt they? whats the diff? What years had the long headlights aposed to the twin round? Or were these imports?? Which models had HID's?

How hard is it to find a stock late type r in good condition with a driver who didnt push it all its life and has a nice service history??

How much aprox?

And last of all, if im at a meet and theres a type r there, could somone take me for a quick spin in one :D

Thanks, Brendan

all dc2Rs would have been pushed...

no one in their right mind would by a type R and not VTEC it every now and then...

HID only came on 98 jdm spec type Rs
and the long headlights are the jap spec ones...

isnt hard to find a good condition one... hard to find one under 28g thou...

get a 99-2000 AUDM wit round eye cos they are da best.... slant eye look old fashion:p... Also buy a red one cos they are faster waaaaaayyyyy faster:)
Type r was made to be pushed so dont worry too much about dat, just get it comp tested and you sould be fine.

honda and nissan make pretty reliable sport engines... shouldnt be a problem...

but like matt said just get it tested by a qualified mechanic...

Becareful, iv tuned 3 fake type R in the last month, which are smashed vtir's with JDM or Aust Type R parts.... and the cars first looks like a type R but once you inspect it closer you can tell its not...if you know what your looking for….The doggy people even re-stamped the engine on one of them from b18c2 to b18c7 even thow it had a p72 head on it.. lol with a red rocket cover.

If you find something cheap.. make sure its cheap for a reason.. in general you get what you pay for.

How can you tell its a type r, not a fully loaded mock up? VIN number?

it depends on how much the car has been converted... there are tell tails of vtir conversion to type r.
But to an un trained eye you wont be able to pick them out. Only teggy freaks will beable to point them out... all lil. fine details gives them away... and some obvious ones..
