you'd be surprised :) but for his application the d16a8 would be more than worthy of a boosted application

Genuine ZC's go for as much as $1000. Last year they were as high as $1300. Not D16a8... they're much less.
ok well i havent really looked at many honda engines, i know my current high km motor is a rolling defect waiting to happen.......
so if anyone would mind explaining the difference between the ZC and a D16a8 i would appreciate it.
I need a half cut i assume for this project.
I was offered a ZC cut for 2000 at a wrecker is this reasonable no distributor, power steer or ac no radiator either.
Do i need a cut or should i go other ways
Btw i have a D15 twin carb at the mo'

Do you research first mate! Cause you are also going to need new fuel lines and a new fuel tank to change to a fuel injected motor.
ZC is the JDM version with i can't remember how many more horses but there are few more. d16a8 is the aus spec of this producing i think from memory 130bhp @ 6800 something around that.
Basically i want a 1.6L non vtec motor to turbo, i know that i need to change the fuel system. As for the motor the wrecker was selling this ZC (imported) i just wanted a D16 another wrecker quoted me 2500 for one. I would have thought that stock 4cyl motore would no be that pricey.

yeah thats a rip off. theres a guy on here selling B16a front cuts for damn near that price!
Geez this is getting difficult, it would be easier to build a Turbo VL and go a hell of a lot faster for the prices i have been quoted, good thing i love my civic... VL tempting tho.
The original plan was a D16A6 (or local version) si front cut rebuilt with new internals and a turbo, and upgrading the fuel system.
Does anyone know where i would find that motor and the parts i need.
And a relative cost (excluding the turbo parts and new internals)
Thanks

its d16a8/9 and they're available at any wreckers pretty much. should cost around $500 for everything you need. If you want a drag car... go with a VLt coz you're wasting your time with a FWD base.
thanks for all your help, this gives me a much better idea of what this will cost me.
Would anyone see the need for a DOHC motor for my application? will there be a noticable difference with a turbo?

btw d16a8 and ZC = technically the same JUST the ECU is very slightly different ads ZC is rated to japanese spec etc. ( correct me car nerds if wrong!) SO , a d16a8 is no different really. Great lil engine. Even better if boosted :)
I think....it migh be easier to find a second hand sohc d16y8 ( vti engine, newer and less k's) and boost that intstead :)

Theres a few guys on here who have boosted the VTi engines and can actually get some decent power out of them! The kits are common and cheap for the VTi too. Dunno about the Si, however i do know that they are available.

yah, will be easier to go for a D16Y8. more aftermarket support as well.
ZC has 0.1 higher compression than D16A8 to make (from memory) 3 extra HP. so yeah bugger all difference. yeah, ECU for the ZC is what makes the main diff - tuned to jap 102 octane fuel
. . . - tuned to jap 102 octane fuel
so if we're running silly 98 octane fuel what would the effects be?
would be it be better to run an AUS spec ecu or jap spec ecu?

jap spec i would say. 98 will be fine. if there are any probs you could get your timing adjusted to suit but i wouldnt reckon you would need to. i dunno, maybe ask someone on here with a JDM model (EG6 etc.. or any one with a swap from a JDM cut)

PAUL - seeing you're in perth - WHO gave you the prices you are quoting?
If you do have a Carbed D15 atm you would be better off getting a half cut - simply because most of the necessary items are there, fuel lines, regulators, harness etc etc.
Have you tried trading in your motor as well at thesame time?
Have a chat to Gabe at Honbits if you havent already - haggle him down a little, but make sure you're getting a propper ZC not a Rover ZC (only 150HP).
otherwise send me a PM and we can have a chat.

The JDM ZC runs fine on 98 octane, it can even run on 91octane.

yeah, since many JDM ZC's have a knock sensor its not really an issue. but 98 runs much better.
