Hey people..
I have a 97 Civic VTI-R and recently I've noticed that the brake pedal vibrates a little when the car is almost coming to a halt...
It doesnt happen all the time and when it happens, there is a bit of a thumping sound as well...
Could it be wheel bearings??....the car doesnt vibrate!!..only the brake pedal at times..
The car still brakes fine but knowing that something is wrong is a bit worrying especiall when it's the brakes!!...
Anyone experienced this before or know what could be the cause?
Thanks..

Regards..
Joe

does your car have ABS ? might be normal eheh.

Get your front discs/ rotors checked by a professional....they might need machining / replacing.

it happened to my car before. 1rst the mechanic thought the brake disc needed to be machined, but after they machined it, the virbration came back after 2-3 wks:( . Then I took it to another mechanic and got my wheel bearing replaced, then the vibration was gone for good. :D

Maybe your discs need to be machine if you haven't done anything that would damage your wheel bearing.

yeh what tonmasi said,

when the brakes are COLD run your finger up and down the front rotors if they are lumpy, and it doesnt have to be much, they need machining. also if your rotors are glazed they will need machining, if your rotors are glazed i would suggest when getting them machined to change the brake pads too as they would be glazed or lumpy also,

they wheel bearing would make more noise i think and wouldnt only happen when braking, i dont know its different every time

The same thing happened to my old Honda Jazz
But it was when i would break at the same time as going over a rough bit of road
The pedal seemed to rattle and the breaks didnt grab smooth like normal
When i got my coupe i didnt get the same problem so i thought it must have been the breaks on the jazz

it'll either e the ABS or your pads+rotors.
happens if u thrash your car too much :p

thanks for the replies..
i'm gonna get it check but it wont happen till wednesday..
occupied work n uni...
i'm leaning towards the wheel bearing...
cos if the disc or rotors are lumpy..they should vibrate verytime i brake and not only once in a while right?...

My rotors were glazed. It would be fine until I got to low speed and as I pulled up for lights it would pulse. But that's the car, not the pedal.

ABS will shake the pedal, but shouldn't be noticible when braking normally.

Check your rotors, may be warped?

did some trials on different braking conditions..
found out that the vibration only happens when the car is braking on a rough or bumpy surface...
and it only happens when the car is almost at fully stop position...
getting it checked tomorrow but any suggestion would be good..
thanks
