View Full Version : Better Title Description Query!

to the moderators again.

is it possible to request as a RULE that some titles in all the threads be more specific? just something that I personally find a little annoying when looking through threads.

what i mean by that - many times the titles don't give any idea about what the thread is about - for example 'Question' in a title - means nothing - it can be about anything and everything. yes the little description pop-ups do give an Idea of the first 6-10 lines in the thread but it would be just so much easier to put a better title on a thread.

make them more specific... not just a one word description.

What do you guys think?

It's a good idea but, how they supposed to moderate that when the user is the one that puts in the title?

It would be impossible for the moderators to control what the title of the thread would be.. as the user is the one inputting the thread..
Although the moderators could edit the titles, but there's a lot of new threads coming in every night, so would be pretty hard to control..

Well it would be hard to moderate - yes but - I'd just like to make it as general rule that you have to try and describe your topic in the title...

its up to the USer - but it would make it alot neater and easier to surf it EVERYONE kept to the rule.

nah, i'm saying that it'll be hard to keep by the rule, because there's nothing that can restrict it..
for example..
oftenly i see new users coming in to post one or two threads regarding problems of theirs.. they are uninformed of the rules, too lazy too read the T+C.. etc..
so they just post whatever..

it's a good idea altogether, just a hard problem to solve..

it would be harder for them to moderate seeing as they are one mod down atm ;)

they need someone with way too much time on their hands

i think panda just offered to be that someone..

well i thought as a rule - maybe a sticky on title descriptions in each section

and like for example in the For sale section - its nice and neat

[PTH] Subwoofer Box 2x12inch
[SYD] Cusco Strut Brace for EG Civic

maybe in each section there can be stuff like

[CRX] problem with idling on Gen2
[TEG] what do you guys think of this bodykit
[EG CIVIC] how to install master clutch cylinder

I think with time if everyone follows this simple rule - you will notice even on the rare occasion someone comes in they will see how the forum works and also post it in the right format - I know I did when I posted a couple of things on the 'for sale' section - notice everyone posted [location] 'item for sale' and i followed that format.

lol.

Seriously guys , we have a minimum limit implemented etc - but there is no way of controlling users from typing in the correct description for their thread title etc. All we can really do is add a lil post early in the thread " btw , update your title !" or to that effect.

IF you ever search , its not difficult to do an advanced search and add different varibles to further help - its not title dependant.

BTW Panda , You are more than welcome to PM every single user in the forum whom incorrectly titles their threads rofl.

i agree! make it a rule so that we can flame the people who make stupid titles!!! lol alot of other msg boards do- but then they are horrible places to be as it is scary asking any questions...

the good thing about ozhonda is that you can view the begining of the thread with the pop up thing though, if it didn't i would get hella annoyed probably wouldn't bother reading the forums to be honest.

I completely understand the reasoning for this, but damn how hard would it be to implement...Like it will always go on, and some may not learn, plus considering new members, there would have to be a designated title mod alone for this. I still agree its anooying with some titles telling you nothing about what it's about...

It's a good idea but I think like everyone has said it's hard to force onto people / moderate. Most people do it in the For sale forum and the events forum which is good.

can we maybe just give it a go and see how we go?

i made a post about my gfs car with [CIVICEG] under the appearance gallery - gave it a good title - i think if the people who read this and believe in this - make an effort then others will follow suit - and when some people don't their posts may not be responded to as well...

That's a good point, but I think it would apply only to certain forums more than others.

EG the marketplace
the accord forum (with all this EURO vs older Accord issues)

well those are the main ones I can think of :)

under tech section maybe putting in [CRX] or [CIVIC] or [TEG] or [EURO] would give people a better ideas of what model car the thread is refering to... not something like 'problem with starting' - ON what car? I know i can help with a CRX/CIVIC but beats the fk out of me on a new accord or a DC2 teg... that kinda thing

practice makes perfect i recon

then in the lounge section you can't really control it - too vague.. but the car/technical/appearance/ sections i think this would have a great effect

is it just me or have some people already started using this type of threads - in the Accord section especially?
