okay guys n gals.

after driving my CRX for a period of time, i'll stop somewhere (to get fuel, run into the shop etc.). then when i go to start my car again, she wont start! all the dash lights are on, but i know when she'll kick over as she makes a whirring sound, then a click. if she doesnt click and i start her up, she revs....sputters and then dies (quite embarrassing when theres heaps of peeple around). i know of other CRX's that have this me problem. can anyone help as its really pissing me off! im thinking its either an ignition problem or ecu problem

cheers

main relay ( controls fuel and spark) maybe overheating. Replace/resolder. (under the dash on the RHS)
Also ignitor / coil inside the dizzy maybe old - replace those and ur problem shoudl be fixed.

mick have u checked that is just not your battery? i had same problem couple of weeks back where engine wouldnt turn over sometimes yet lights, windows etc would still work. first few times all it needed was to push start it but then one day it just shat itself and when we finally got it goin sounded abosulutly ruff as guts. got RACQ to come have look see and all it needed was new battery

Thats what Happened to me the other day... I let it sit for another 5 mins and it started. First and only time its happened. I've replaced my main relay, hope that solves it.

ROTOR BUTTON $20 or so..
or just get a new oem dizzy cap $50 inc. new rotor button to suit..
my crx died.. was ready to pull the head off..
i've noticed the new rotor buttons are of a better more well balanced design compared to the one that came with the car..
still made by TEC [tokyo electronics corp] i think???

i'll put $10 on main relay to win thanks.. :)

that is the EXACT same thing that happened to me... when i go to start the car after fuel up it would go for a second then die.. after that the engine wont start for another 2-3 minutes....

just get out the main relay, open it up, resolder all points on the circuit board and that fixed it :)

Hi...

I had the same problem on my 88 CRX... It can be very embarrassing, like it was running out of petrol or something. One night it spluttered to a stop and wouldn't start.

I had the NRMA come and save me, he checked for spark and a few other things before cleaning the dizzy with his air gun. It started and has been running great ever since. I would get someone to check out your dizzy too :)

Same problem with me on my dual carb EG. fortunately doesnt take more than 10 minutes to fill up the tank.

if i drive it for a while and turn it off for say 10 minutes, it wont turn on for a long time.. just sits there trying to crank over. but if i leave it for 20 minutes, the car starts up fine.

so it starts up fine in cold, but between 10 - 20 minutes after turning it off it wont start. (it does eventually but still very embarrising)

ill get my main relay re done and dizzy as well and see how that goes too.. I was just about to post up this similar thread.

yes it is embarrassing. especially when you've just filled up and the people behind want to use the pump! i'll check both the relay and dizzy this weekend. i'll hafta let my mate know as well

thanks heaps for all the helpful replies and good to see i'm not the only one with the problem hahahahaha
