i was just wondering if u got a avo bolt on turbo for example and perfectly installed, tuned rah rah rah...would there still be problems running a turbo??

so basically there would be no maintenance problems running it?

Most likely not.

But... are you aware of what you are paying for in that kit? I think you should read the thread below. Research before you go and spend your hard earned money.

if u want bolt-on goodness, order something from the US. Our currency is sky high at the moment, and u can easily import something better for less money. Just remmber to add 25% tax to your total bill (kit + shipping).

whats wrong with avo turbo kits? they may not be custom made, but good enough for the price you pay.

For what you pay, if you research a bit you can get better components for the same price.

For $5k that's not including installing and tuning.

Only if you break something ;)

The extra maintenance is changing the oil/filter more regularly, and just keeping a closer eye on things ilke oil level, oil pressure (in case you have a leak somewhere and lose a heap of oil), and the added expenses relating to fuel and tyres (less traction = replacing tyres more often :) )

The key is to make sure you do the usual maintenance on time and know how to drive your car...assuming everything is installed properly and well tuned

on this topic ...

I am also thinkin about goin to turbo ... but I am worried about reliability

so ... here's a few questions ..

anyone here turboed hondas? what's been your experience beyond the 12 month mark?
what did you install? how much for? in hindsight, was it worth it (say in comparison to getting a *shudders* WRX or somethin like that?

I can't really see any extra maintenance costs between a turbo and a N/A sports car.

Most people I know with both would regiously do oil + filter change @ 5,000kms and plugs as well if they are running coppers.

if done safely, like any performance orientated car, u shouldnt have any more service problems. Most i would do differently (i already chnage my oil every 5k) is let the car warm up and down more rigourisly with a turbo attached.

Weq ... a turbo timer would do that for ya right?

It would. They are also illegal.

I saw a nice turbo civic at the runs!
It was a 1.5L 1974 model i think!

That was a 10sec car, it just won over a 808 wagon with a 12a turbo!

I wish the owner put a turbo B18C engine in :D

turbo timers are illegal because it's illegal to leave your car unattended with the motor running. if you sit in your car with the turbo timer running, you might as well time it with your watch and turn it off manually. :)

Sorry to hijack thread.
But i'm also looking to have a turbo kit fitted next month.

Since everyone is saying the avo turbo kit is crap can anyone recommend any other workshops that can do something at a similar cost? and what if u used the avo turbo kit and changed a few parts to make it better?

so ... anyone know any good installers? btw ... anyone here installed the Apexi or Greddy kit for Civics? what do u think of em (waste of money or good or what)

IMHO why turbo a civic? enjoy for what it is if you want turbo theres no excuse not to get something boosted here; we got a lovely selection of FACTORY boosted cars :)

If you are in melbourne ACS engineering and blkcrx both have quite a bit of experience with turboing hondas. allothough it's unlikely they will do 5k setups for you (that price is scraping the bottom of the barrel) you are looking at more like 6-8k i believe.

I turbo Honda’s all day long every day.... from designing to tuning....

One simple rule when turboing a Honda, don't cut corners spend more money than you want to spend !! which no one likes... if you can't do something right the first time don't do it at all...go for quality over price, and function over price also.... Then you will have a good boosted Honda oh remember labour to install things isn’t free !!!!

I agree with James, when in doubt you should overbuild and not cut any corners. I've seen a half job before and it was a bomb :?
