this is aimed to all the gen2 owners out there. what sussy are you running and what comments do you have on it?

i'm not asking for outsiders and second hand info, i just wanna hear what ppl actually have and their thoughts on their setup:)

i'd ask on crxaus but its down.....again.

i ran eibach springs with stock shocks on my gen2 and it was excellent. taking corners like i was on a rollercoaster.

Koni adjustables with king springs, but i don't race mine so probably isnt relevant.
I haven't adjusted the Konis at all,

panda dont forget the gen2 chassis is already good. old but good. i have/had RS-R springs with front strut and it handles like a dream. sure it understeers a bit.
but it handles better then some honda's with more sus work dont to them.
all im tryin to say is dont go over-board.

yeah i know thats why was thinking of just goin with yellows and nice springs and not the common coilover route.

hey dude...

Im currently using Koni Yellows all around, and H&R Variable Rate Coils.
Konis on front are stock setting, Konis on rear are cranked to about 70% damper.
Apart from that im unsing a Whiteline front Strut Brace and rear sway bar.

I find the setup to be absolutely fantastic. You can go into a corner hard, and there is NO understeer - swaybar works the Treats at the back - allowing the car to even have oversteer when needed.
I can out handle just about EVERYTHING on the road, and do quiet well against many cars on some of my motorkhana days... except maybe a lotus elise - othercars beat me with the pure grunt of a turbo.

as for H&R coils -- they were recommended to me by a suspension specialist here in perth - they drive nice on the street, and stiffen up when load is put on them around a corner - hence variable rate :) Wicked!

in my eyes is a beautiful setup. Im still going to look into some Urathane Bushings to tighten any slack in the suspension... but for someone who could not afford coilovers at the time - I don't think I could have been offered a better setup :) *still can't afford coilovers LOL*

my recomendation would be H&R variable rate springs - however being in WA I cannot offer any of the Eastern States guys a test... - bugger - i'd be more than happy to take you's for a speedy flog through the back streets *safely*

Hey Guys,

Nothing too fancy in my gen 2 - I really agree with Brains V Wallet comment.

Koni Yellows , standard springs (Am i the only one in the world with std springs?) and rear Whiteline sway bar.

Result is next to no understeer, and a very liveable, well controlled daily driver. In fact I track this car a bit now too.

Are the Koni's others have adjustable by a knob, or do they have to be removed to adjust?

My sugestion on what to get in order -

-springs $300-$400
-front/rear swaybar $150-$200
-rear strut $150-$300

(prices are not accurate, so dont bitch about em)

then save for coilovers. I had pedders spings, whiteline front and rear swaybars and whiteline rear strut brace for a while, handeling was crazy. body roll reduced and turn in was alot sharper. But dont forget decent tyre grip....

hmmm dunno if coilovers are really needed on the gen2, koni yellows seem to do the trick. and dont most of em need to be modded to fit anyway?

maybe we should make a list of the ones that are available for ED/EF CRX? :p

and phil prices dont mean shit, would be better to post reccomended brands

ok here comes fun........

CRX...

1st setup:
King Super low springs on Koni Yellow Shocks .... got rid of it and upgraded to coilovers as it was way too soft for my liking and use.

2nd setup: NPG street coilovers, height adjustable only, great for hills but no damper control meant still not satisfied.

3rd setup: TeinNA/NR coilovers, height & damper adjustable, excellent for hills and good for mild track work, Cusco front & rear strut brace, whiteline front and rear swaybars.

the 3rd setup was not the most "street friendly" setup, however did the adelaide-sydney trip without a worry and was just awesome in hills.

ITR
new setup: Zeal Superfunction coilovers, height & damper adjustable, 2 sets of springs, track 16kg Front 14kg Rear, street 8kg Front 6kg Rear

bottom line is, you have to decide what you wish to achieve out of your car, if you just wish to have a car that will never see a corner at highspeed then dont bother getting anything like setup3, you might aswell go setup1.

if you like a firmer more controlled ride and also want the option of being able to dump it and goto autosalon or the like then setup2 is prob the better way to go.

if you are a sporting enthusiast and like to do naughty things like hill runs, or good things like track days then setup3 would be the only way to go.

MY PERSONAL OPINION from past experiences and findings... I know if I just went with setup3 for the crx from the start I wouldve saved a lot of money, which is why I say decide now what you want out of your car before you go out and spend the money.

totally agree with MR crex. I had hks springs on my previous setup. lower and stiffer compared to stock, but still not stiff enough. Now i've got hks hipermax II on my ek9 and it handles like a dream. IMO, as mr crex said, know what u want from the car before you go out and spend the $$$. Lastly, always know that you get what you pay for. :)

my crex, yeh you would have saved money going straight to setup 3, but im sure you wouldnt know half about what you know about your car know.

and phil, STFU i keep up with you in the hills. :P

SINISTR

BUT - BUT.... springs alone don't change the stiffness of the ride. Its the shocks that make the difference.

I don't think its a good idea of putting low or even superlow springs on a car thats 15yrs old when the shocks haven't been changed - one its dangerous because you're reducing the damper rate and shortening the travel of the stock shock - they are good when they are brand new - but not when they have 100K+ kms.

i always recommend to somone whos car is older than 5yrs or 100000kms to change shocks when getting lowering springs.

yes true I shouldve stated dates for the setups....

setup1 = 2001

setup2 = 2003

setup3 = 2003/2004

hmmmm my mind is quickly swaying away from the yellows and towards coilovers =P

my only concern with the majority of coilovers in aus is they cant be rebuilt if they die on ya. i guess it wouldnt be a common problem but if it did happen....
