get a manual, that way u enjoy the benift of the vtec more
manual vtir 0-100km/h range from 7.2 to 7.8s
thats all from diff test from car magazines.

im not too keen a manual driver for some reason. I was learning manual on some hyundai back in the day. ddint enjoy it all and switched to an auto. The raeson i own an auto euro. have heard manual euro are pretty quick of the mark.

20k would most likely be a vtir, i wouldnt touch the tippy if i was you, not only do the box have problems but they are alot slower...

a 3rd gen prelude manual dominates over a auto 5th gen vtec, that is how much difference it makes...

A Manual 5th gen would run mid to high 15 second passes stock, auto mid to high 16's... VTiR of course.

20g for a 2000 is a bit much these days.. my mate got a 2000 for 17500 a few months ago. if you want a decent price approximation go to www.drive.com.au and click on Value your car.

... or redbook as well.

I'f youre purely interested in just cruising the car then Auto is ok. I'm sure manual driving in a prelude is a lot more fulfilling than in a hyundai. :)

manual is far better in most cars, lol especially vtec. although i cant imagine how bad it would be driving an auto hyundai :S thats so off topic but yea manual!

i have an auto vtec... i'm pretty happy with mine. It's fairly fast, but is a good cruiser as well. Obviously the manuals are quicker, but if ur worrying alot about speed, get a turbo lol. everytime i'm in the city or stuck in a traffic jam i'm so grateful i've got an auto. So, depends what ur after i guess.

I have only driven the latest prelude (5th gen?) and they are a gem to drive. So smooth, nice interior with creature comforts, a total cruiser, its not lighting fast but fast enough, but seriously I wouldn't care, they are so nice to drive. The prelude remind me of a soarer's little brother even though they are different car makers

the prelude is a great car auto or manual..if you are planning on purchasing a 5th gen just get a 98 - 01 model ..no 97 models..thats where most of the transmission problems occurred.

im planing to the 5th gen. so wat's wrong with the 97 models?

industrie
06-05-2005, 03:07 PM
nothing is wrong with the 97 models..just most of the 97 tiptronic models would require a new transmission if its been thrashed around...manual one would be fine...thats all...look for a manual and you will be fine...

the bridge between 4th and 5th gen prices is getting closer,

Iv noticed that, these days 95 vtir's and 97 vtir's are only as much difference as 2 years would suggest, not a entire new model?

i disagree, with so much potential why would you want to be restricted with a 4 speed automatic transmission? manual would be the only way you would want to control the power that these cars have...

i mean you cant launch an auto car like you can a manual, what are you going to do to launch an auto? hold the brakes and rev to like 2500?? haha if you've got vtec you would want to rev it to 5500 or so and drop the clutch and keep the car in vtec the whole time, thats the only way to go fast in one of these cars...NA wise that is!

*frowns* all these comments on auto preludes
i drive one n i LOVE it
u guys make it sound like its the worst thing that could happen to purchase an auto...

ROLLED
05-10-2005, 11:45 PM
seriously mate, why would you get auto...you've just decided that you want a performance car...the only reason you would get an auto is if you cant drive manual -_-

you love the fact you've got 4 gears and superlong gear ratios??? i guess you have tiptronic though, so at least you can pretend you have a manual gear box :)

industrie
06-10-2005, 12:10 AM
the prelude isnt a performance car its a luxury sports car...whether its auto or manual...its a cruise car..its not a type R, s2k or type S...those cars should be manual...obviously for you performance is what you enjoy so you would be biased towards manual cars..like duh

ROLLED
06-10-2005, 12:13 AM
yeah aren't you the one in the other threads comparing the tegs to preludes? im guessing you drive an auto mate

once again luxury? cruise control and what? most of them dont even have leather? though they do look nice, i must admit they do look more expensive then DC2 tegs!

i got an auto 5th gen too

manual is faster, but if u wanted a fast car u'd get a proper fast car. the lude is luxury. its for cruising. its just about comfort levels rather than getting from A to B in the fastest possible time

u can get a nissan pulsar GTIR for 15k that will get u down the 1/4mile under 14seconds.

i got the lude cause its luxury. its got climate control, cruise control and all the extras. and with the tiptronic u can be holding the steering wheel with 1 hand while tickling some slut's clit with the other instead of holding the shifter. (personal experience. lol :D )

if u're getting a 5th gen prelude then its the best choice u ever made. not many cars around these days look as good as the prelude 8 years after it was released for the 1st time.

and 5th gens look like a $30k car

chicken8
06-10-2005, 01:43 PM
and also my prelude brand new was $48750 from memory

all up with rego and stuff it was well over $50k

and thats around the normal price for a 5th gen brand new (tiptronic model)

to think u can get 1 for less than 1/2 that price now i think is a bargain.

Manual baby!!!

And don't bother with an SI, I had a 92 S... and that jus plain sucked (no offense to owners now, but i'm much happier with my 5gen vtir!!!)

Auto's nice (found that out the other day in syd traffic... waiting 2 hours and shuffling along trying to balance the clutch and crawl along!)

But manuals nicer in a vtec!

My opinion i guess!
