just abit of trivia so i thought id put it into a question form:

1) how many revolutions does ur camshaft make per 1rpm?

2) if a dohc has 2 cams one for exhaust and one for intake, how does a sohc engine control both exhaust and intake?

3) if a DOHC normally has 2 cams, if a motor has the VTEC mechanism, does it mean that there are 4 cams per cylinder?

hope that gets some brains thinking :) if ur gonna reply please reply with 1-,2 and 3 before ur answer so its easier to tell.

i'll have a crack at it, having a go at this kinda stuff is the best way to learn new things :)

1) This one definitely got me thinking, and i have no idea if i'm thinking correctly :) The cam is spun by the crank, using the timing belt. Now, i cant remember whether the crank pulley and the timing pulley are the same size so not sure if its 1:1. If it is 1:1, that would mean the cam is spinning the same speed at the crank, so 1rpm. Is that right?

2) The SOHC engine will simply have the exhaust and intake lobes on the single cam, yeh?

3) VTEC means there is an extra lobe that is activated by a solenoid, so no it only has 2 cams :)

1 - Cam would be directly proportional to the crank, as the valves would need to be moving in accordance with the piston, if it were a different ratio, the valves would be moving at a different rate to the pistons = snapped valves.

2 - Yup as poid said, intake and exhaust are on the same cam.

3 - Same again, extra cam lobe on the camshafts.

Why are those questions whack LatinoCrap?
Were you born with all the car knowledge in the world that you never asked questions before?
And if they're so "whack" then why can't you answer it yourself instead of making this dude go to the website?
I've just been reading other threads and it seems that you like to give people crap because they're not as good and "smart" as you [think you are]...

Here are the answers that have eluded you... :P

1) As camshafts spin @ ½ engine speed.
Answer: 1/2

2) Answer:
Obviously with a single camshaft that has both intake & exhaust lobes on it…

3) Answer:
No…
