I have a 1997 Civic with a D16Y8 and integra running gear with a Vortech Supercharger
What Supercharger is others running?
and what power figures are you getting?

YLDCVC

Alot cheaper than Turbo

**Ghost**
05-05-2005, 03:16 PM
what parts?

YLDCVC
05-05-2005, 03:30 PM
Supercharger off course
Piping to your intake from supercharger
Piping to Intercooler if using a Intercooler
electrical wire to run a on and off switch (If Needed)
a belt to run the supercharger eg: A/C Belt etc

ECU? what about fuel?

|N|
05-05-2005, 03:32 PM
how much would a basic setup cost?>

Q_ball
05-05-2005, 03:32 PM
i heard superchargin was more expensive than turbos!

**Ghost**
05-05-2005, 03:35 PM
thats teh thing no one knows... !? u can splurge $6000 on a jackson racing one... but i've always wondered how much it costs to do it cheap...

So heres the questino

For running around 5psi... what would be needed? extra fuel? electronics? ECU?

YLDCVC
05-05-2005, 03:39 PM
with the IGGZE supercharger you can run Stock ECU only on the stock boost though (6Pounds)
I run a Wolf 3D computer
i also have Vafc2 and Safc2
my fuel is running alot richer but you can run a leaner fuel mixture

so u are using the VAFC2 to make ur car run richer to compensate for teh lack of a fuel controller am i reading u right here?

YLDCVC
05-05-2005, 03:42 PM
if you know what your doing, and know an exhaust place that can do the piping for you and you install it all yourself it can cost you less that 1k

Mark

**Ghost**
05-05-2005, 03:44 PM
never knew it was that cheap...

so are u using the VAFC to compensate for fuel?

I would have imagined bigger injectors would be needed as well...

last question... ignition needs to be modded?

YLDCVC
05-05-2005, 03:48 PM
im running 440cc injectors
it depends you can run on stock ignition... or use a MSD ignition product etc

do you know how much power you are putting down? also what engine are you running it on?

165fwkw @ 12.4psi running on a D16Y8 with intergra running gear and wolf 3d computer

**Ghost**
05-05-2005, 04:09 PM
damn... so if i wanted to run 5-6psi... reliably i'd be looking at

1. Supercharger from u (250)
2. an old intercooler from teh wreckers ($50)
3. Piping $150
4. 440CC injectors (prolly get em from some mitsubishi) - $200
5. VAFC2 - $400?
6. Belt - $100

i dont see how i could get it all done for under $1000

YLDCVC
05-05-2005, 04:16 PM
that was just a rough estimate but still alot cheaper than running a turbo-charger.... but you will always get alot more power out of a turbocharger than a supercharger....

This sounds too good to be true. How come the supercharger is only $250? Can I see some pics?

you got a dyno sheet? also any pics? i am very curious as you say its on a D16Y8 but you've put down saying your car is a civic vti-r?????

^^v
05-05-2005, 08:05 PM
just curious
at wot rpm is max torque reached? n how much torque are we talking?

shouldnt this thread be in the forced induction section?

**Ghost**

superchargers actually go for that cheap dont be surprised... autobarn sells reconditioned ones for 350 bucks... normally ppl who do supercharge get 1ggze ones or ones from 4agze

MR-VTEC
06-05-2005, 06:59 AM
lol. i see you changed your car to vti now??? so wheres the pics/dyno sheet?

06-05-2005, 09:13 AM
so can i see some figures? i just cant see how it can be so cheap....
it's way way way too cheap..for extra power..
i asked someone about turbo..and cheapest...is like 2500 at least...tat's not ecu or anything

how come superchharger is so cheap...hmmm...

165fwkw @ 12.4psi running on a D16Y8 with intergra running gear and wolf 3d computer

165fwkw. on a d16y8? wat integara running gear u using on a sohc engine? vti-r stickers?

show us pictures Mr 3f3f.

YLDCVC

the charger that im running is a Vortech not a 1GGZE i paid like 3k for my setup i used to run a 1GGZE but the most power you will get out of it is 35-55kw increase @ 6-7pounds on stock pulley,

Now getting back to topic
I was just wondering if anyone else had tried a supercharger setup and wanted to know how well it worked, the post was not setup for those who want to flame others, everyone has there own opinion but lets keep to the topic

thats not a d16y8 sohc engine

isnt this thread supposed to be in the Forced Induction section?

z3lda

who cares about where this belongs...just wanna see a pic of this guys d16y8 supercharged.

wlee2
06-05-2005, 11:00 AM
umm pardon my stupidity.. but i looked at the pictures 1. doesnt even look like a d16y8.
2. how did you get the compressed air to you "front mount intercooler" it looks like it just pluged into the end where the throttle body thingy is.. wit this huge box thing with vortech..
and WTF 165 Fwkw? on a d16?

and superchargers downfall is that it robs power to make power.. and it maxes out on high rpm..

i dunno about doing it on a civic.. but it would go well with maybee a bigger engine.. maybee b18? b20 ? h22 ?

z3lda
06-05-2005, 11:11 AM
its alright, i dont mind ur stupidity. ehhehe.

his a 3f3f with his fmic supercharged d16y8 pumping 165kwatw with integra internals inside a sohc engine.

I have a book that has hundreds of dyno tests
on b16a b18c d16y etc
on a 92 civic si d16z engine + headers exhaust CAI etc = 112.2hp atw
jackson racing supercharger made 139.6hp at 6psi 165.3hp at 8psi

atleast that gives you an idea of what a good quality bolt on supercharger can do.

MR-VTEC
06-05-2005, 01:48 PM
we still see no proof of your 165fwkw. also a full engine bay shot would be nice

RUDEF2
06-05-2005, 01:51 PM
Hey all i dont think YLDCVC will be bragging much about his car anymore as his car was on the side frankston/dandenong rd with smoke pissing out of the engine...

z3lda
06-05-2005, 01:54 PM
thats the integra running gear (vti-r sticker) melting inside his engine car. and his twin cam d16y8 with a fmic supercharged.! not operatin properly cuz the sticker melted

RUDEF2
06-05-2005, 01:56 PM
arent D16's single cam?

z3lda
06-05-2005, 02:26 PM
yes it is.

Just wanted to note that i'm not saying that this guy is right or not
just thought id give an example of what a good and (very expensive) supercharger can do.
Judging by what RUDEF2 saw i'm sure he got what he paid for in the end.

RUDEF2

LOL very very true....

sifoo
26-07-2005, 10:02 PM
why would you supercharge a 1.6 litre

a supercharge uses power to make power - get a turbo
