thanks alot for the help guys.

just a little concerned about the km's, will a compression & leak down test be enough to make sure the car won't be a lemon?

also there's somethings i noticed.

1. a bit of surface rust on the chassis.
2. rear bumper doesn't perfectly match near the brake lights but is in line with everything else.
3. front bumper seems to be droped a 1cm near the centre from the bonnet, no sign of front-on hit.
4. driver seat isn't bolted on properly (rocks back & forth).
5. petrol/boot lever doesn't have a cover.

4 & 5 will be fixed before i buy it.

can i sand down the surface rust? it isn't deep at all.
also the bumpers, my friends gen5 had the same problem on the rear. common thing on gen5's?

btw, is there something wrong with preludeaustralia? i can't make an account there, could some post this link up?

Personally, I would stay away from this one. Rust on a 1997 Honda is not right. Sounds like its been in a decent front and rear hit. I would be checked all panel gaps and the chassis rails. Just in case you don't have much experience with Hondas . . . . generally, if they haven't been in a big crash or have been repaired properly there should be no rust. My 16 year old Prelude has no rust at all and all panels line up perfectly. I wouldn't pay more than 15k for that one. If you want it, you should point out that its been in a crash, that might knock the price down?

supposedly he's had an offer for $14.5k but that was early last week. he said he won't go under $15k for it, i'll definitely try to nego it down.

i'm getting worried about the bumpers now. i guess i'll have to get it checked out. i'm getting it up on a hoist, so it should tell me whether it has had an accident or not.

offer them 12k

that price would be awesome, but i think it'll be better after hoisting the car to shoot an offer like that.

Yeah knock down the price and spend that money on replacing the bumpers with a full new kit.

Si or Vtir?????

Personally, i find dealers hate nothing more than to be bargained, you tell them its worth less, and they will tell you they wont sell it for that and they recon they'll find another buyer...

Offer him 14k, if he reclines, tell him to find another buyer...

wooops.. it's a VTiR, naturally :D

well it's a private sale. i hate bargaining people if i don't have a valid reason. so hopefully i won't have to use the line

find another buyer...
