just wondering why people bought it over any other honda car, or australian made car. was it looks, performance, luxury, price, modified potential?! :p

It was all cept modified potential. I was looking at the renault clio sport, 206 gti, mazda six, this car had the best mix of the lot. I didnt want something common like a commodore and being under 25 4 cyl made a lot of sense. (Also i dont like turbos newayz, even though i couldnt afford the insurance)

Looks - def better than anything. It has that BMW kinda look where you say "wow stylish" but u dont doubt for a second its got go when it needs it. Nice smooth lines without going over the top.

Performace - Yes. Not as fast or as hardcore as the renault, but you can purr in it day to day as well. Its nice to go fast and corner hard but u wanna be able to do the speed limit in style too and this car rides awesome.

Luxury wise the interior of the euro flogs nething else i looked at. Its nice and stylish but simplistic as well. Everyting is easy to reach. Lots of room. The renault has just cloth everywhere and its shity. The door handles and the door opening and closing is just awesome, like a way more expensive car.

Price - I think the first thing ppl do is work out what they wanna spend then see whats in that price range. As mentioned previously I thought this was the best car - FOR THE PRICE.

I'm not a big modder, so anyone else wanting to field that part can. I bought a car like this coz I didnt wanna mod. If i wanted to mod i woulda bought a 20K car and spent 10K on it. The point of me doing it this way was it got it the way I like it outta the factory :)

I am only upto around 600km, and im keeping it all nice and smooth for the moment. Running in the car is fun to learn about it. Cant wait to open up the potential!

Also - VTEC is awesome.

same as nEUROtic.
I actually was looking at R34 GTT and S15 silvias and 180SXs (i.e performance sports cars) but since im only 19 (turnin 20 soon), insurance woulda been a killer and it woulda been a cop magnet like anything.
I then started lookin at mazda 6, used DC5R's and the mazda 3. It finally came down to the euro and the DC5R. I chose the euro because
1) new car, that feeling you can only get when you purchase a new car
2) had those extra creature comforts that the DC5R didnt have, i.e leather seats, sunroof, etc
3) it has a lot of potential for pple who love to modify their cars such as myself
4) it was a better all round package than any of the above mentioned cars
5) it came with the 05 benefits of 17" JDM euro R wheels and full size spare (thus making it look 10x better than the old euro luxurys with the bland 17"s)

hahah and yes, VTEC is quite awesome.... :D

Every reason nEUROtic said except i like the modding part, even doing little things makes the car feel more like my own and it's actually quite suprising how many different mods are becomming avaliable for the euro - probably due to its impressive sales.

Also i needed something with only 4 cylinders to keep the insurance costs and fuel spending down coz im younger too. I duno if anyone knew this but APPARENTLY the euro is the fastest NA, 4cylinder, mid size sedan in the world? i may be wrong - but because i wanted a "real" car (something not too small) it seemed the obvious choice.

I was looking at the liberty and mazda 6 but the euro beat both on interior appointments and performance - and damn it's easy on the eyes ;)

It came out just when i was seriously looking at cars too and everything about it just fit the bill. It kinda found me and thats why i know i made the right choice :D

Lifestyle choice for me

I did have a CRV, which was to be a family car... when i was to get married leter this year, but now im not getting married so changed the car, basically for the reasons given above , but mainly cause I could....maz 6 seemed underpowered although did look at maz 3 sp23, and id already owned a commodore before, plus honda really pulled the stops out with the euro (and with most of their new line up too) for price vs options..

Cheers

Simple, because its good to drive and nice to look at. Mazda 6 is cheaper though still a good car. But the euro is better.

My reasons:
1. Fuel economy- I drive 1,200km a week to and from work, and reading about the 5.5-6.5 l/100km pretty much got my attention (even though I had a pretty frugal commodore when it came to bowser bills)

2. Style- The car just looks greeeaaat! From the front styling to the sleek lines across the whole length of the car to those two fabulous tail pipes sticking out the back; it's just sex on wheels (even without a body kit).

3. Fit and finish- The interior is superb, no other way to put it. From the feel of the seats and the way they hold you in compared to the park benches they give you in Commodores (even the new ones) is almost worth it alone. Then there's the finish of the little bits and bobs inside the car, from the finish of the metalic trim around the steering wheel to the perfect stitching on the gear knob. That sure shut sound of the doors and boot lid, the slick, well defined gates of the 6 speed and the boot space, I can't compliment Honda enough of what they've done to the inside of this car.

4. Honda reputation- Face it, if you want a well made, mass produced, competitively priced vehicle that lets performance and pose speak more than a badge, the Japanese do it best. Their engines and handling definitely put the brand on the map, and this car just brought that bit of Europe form to the Japanese function.

5. Overall package- Sports seats (bare with me people, I ain't talking nappa leather Recaros), VW/Audi fit and finish, gorgeous looks, goes like stink, reliability beyond all others (10,000,000 odd(?) VTEC units and not a single failure on record (heard that on TopGear)), sedan functionality with sports performance, point and shoot steering, VSA & EBD standard (should be standard on ALL cars), a back seat that fits adults(!), the lovely Porsche style throttle pedal, that intoxicating engine note when you're really hammering along and can bring yourself to turning the awesome stock sound system off, and all the little gadgets like the drink holder, map lights, remote windows and the way it looks in red... I could ramble on for pages, but I my car's calling me...

catch ya on the road people, have fun and keep it sunny side up! :D

Agree - the first time I pushed it around a corner I was impressed. I also liked how the engine was so smooth and the technology for the money (VSA, EBD, seat airbags... etc etc). The Mazda 6 was cheaper but lacked the polish of the Euro.

drove the 6 and it just didnt have enough to make me sign on the dotted line...btw it was cheaper...drove the liberty 2.5i ,while this is a very nice smooth classy refined car,it just lacked the power to really explore the awd potential. but the euro got me straight away and then i drove it and i had to have it.

I'll second this, having driven a few tail-draggers in all my 23 years (do I sound old and wise enough???) the Euro's a good one. And I haven't come across that nasty kickback through the steering you get in FWD cars over bumps either

Maz 6 Lux sport was my first preference until Honda release Euro in Mid 2003.
Euro's technology and interior finish out performed 6's. IF Euro had standard 17" wheel for 03, 04 models, it would make the car 12/10 in satisfaction scale.

Firstly, great thread...have really enjoyed reading all of your comments about the Euro.

For me, I would have to say the Euro is one of the best cars I have ever owned or driven (and I've owned seven now!).

I was originally looking at a BMW 320i which I test drove and was very impressed by. However, the car felt heavy and sluggish and not worth the 74K asking price!

I then decided to save my money and put off being another tosser in a black BMW for a few more years and started looking at something a bit more sensible. The Euro, Mazda 6, Mazda SP 23, Subaru Liberty and VW Bora came to mind.

Let's just cut the crap and say the Euro shits all over the rest of these cars. I even looked at a Liberty GT and preferred the Euro. (appart from the fact that I could not justify 60K for a subaru, I think the Euro matches it in everything except sheer power, and even that can be clawed back by spending some $$ on the Euro).

My previous car was an S15 200SX. Bought it new and owned it for three years. I loved it but it was not very practical and drank more than an Australian Test Cricketer! That was a real drivers car for all the usual reasons and I think the Euro is too, only for different reasons.

All in all, the Euro is a car that competes with cars 20, 30 or even 40K more expensive than it, and it does so very competently (my dad has a Merc C200K which he paid over 90K for and the Euro's ride, handling and creature comforts are just as good!).

So in summary, I would have to say that we have all made a very wise choice with the Euro, and one that will be reinforced for many years to come!

for me it happen spontantiously.

my brother was a honda salesman and i was looking for a new car in a few months around the 20k mark.

Was talking to him he said i could get a ex-demo integra luxury for 33k i said its a bit out of my price range but ill check it out. So i went down looked at the teg then said for 34k cant i pretty much get a euro. he said i should be able to get that price. So i looked at the euro took it for a spin at that stage i was sold.

Simple, because its good to drive and nice to look at. Mazda 6 is cheaper though still a good car. But the euro is better.

Mazda 6 luxury sports hatch aint much cheaper than a euro luxury...

our choices were Mazda 6
Toyota camry V6 sportivo
and the euro luxury

didnt choose the mazda coz its underpowered compared to the euro (engine displacement is only 0.1L different but the difference in power is fairly big)

The camry was a def. no-go... just couldnt see the justification of paying 40 000+ for a camry... engine is pretty weak for its size as well... 3.0L V6 with abt 14x kw.

The Euro has 140kw from a 2.4L I4...

it was pretty much a no brainer

I had to sell my DC5R because I had a baby on the way and there was no baby harness hook in the teg (and its a 2 door), so I had to look for another car. The choices at the time were:

- Subaru liberty GT
- Mazda 6 hatch sports
- Euro

My first preference was the GT, because of the performance and also I wanted to try another car manufacturer besides honda. But because of a few financial issues (just bought a house, etc) , I couldn't afford the GT, so it came down to the 6 and the euro. Still at this point I was leaning towards the 6 over the euro, until one saturday when I test drove both cars back to back. There was no comparison - the euro won hands down. Now Im happy that I didn't just go straight for the GT and DID test drive the euro (thanks to the wife).

Yeah would look PIMP...

But how would 20's feel on the road with low profile tyres and lowered real low??

I'm using 19's and using adjustable suspension.. It aint smooth at all but its livable... I'm just wondering how would u do hard corners with 20's...

It cost less and overall better than the:

BMW 318i, 320i
Audi 2.0L, 1.8T CVT (non-quattro)
Merc C180K

That's pretty much it. None of those cars can actually match the Euro in performance except the 1.8T Quattro, and none of them had the same amount of std features as the Euro Lux. So in the end, it was a simple choice. Had a look at the Mazda 6, but didn't like the engine as much. 4-speed auto was a instant turn off.

yes well the wrx isn't the most refined car now is it.....can see why you moved to a accord.........i went from a forester gt with mods to a accord euro and it's like chalk and cheese....yes the gt was quick but it felt unrefined and outdated after i test drove the euro.....

but in fact I know many ppl order the car even before on market,, they just want to get the first shipment of the new cars... the feeling of " I m one of the few have this car" :D
